Speed UTV

WOW!  this thread has some good reading.   I suspect we won't reach the 200 pages before it is locked down.  LOL!

Congrats on getting tires being build.   Some of them may get dry rot before they reach car number 4,000.  LOL!

From what I am reading it looks like most people have way more than the 1,500 deposit tied up in their Speed UTVs.   $5,000-$12,000 is a good chunk of change and I could see why some are getting a little anxious.

Like I have said before RG is doing these shows not be transparent, but to keep interest alive and to show those that have deposits and money wrapped up there is progress.

I sure hope I get to see some in the dunes this season.   I was really hoping he would have some ready by Camp RZR.  Maybe he will take the race UTVs to Glamis to show off.
That's interesting how you interpret his shows. He's said many times that he's doing this to be transparent, yet you don't feel that's the case, for some reason.

Showing people a lot of the behind the scenes work that goes into it - including signing up dealers, explaining some of the business dealings they had to undertake to get the ball rolling - that's not being transparent? That's the kind of stuff that he doesn't have to show anyone, it's not a pile of parts or welding, but it was necessary for them to do it in order to get the infrastructure in place to properly service customers and their cars.

Have you ever seen a video from BRP showing a map of the US and all of the dealers nationwide? Speed UTV did. It's good information about the company, part of being transparent, IMHO.

Oh wait, this is RG we're talking about, so it must just be him doing his usual chest thumping ego thing.

The other manufactures do not have to do weekly shows.  They are established companies with a track record.  They will talk to you about design aspects when you are at shows.  I have talked to Polaris and Can Am engineers at the Sand Show.  The other manufactures are not a start up UTV company that are trying to generate sales.   They do not have to show us the dealer network as you can easily find a dealer.   Speed UTV unfortunately has to do the shows to prove they are legit and are making progress.

Yes he is giving us a peek at the design process, which is very cool and I give him kudos for that.   I think his partner Todd has been more transparent with the financing issues, flooring issues, dealer network and insurance and what it took to make that happen.   I think it was Todd that also explained the assembly line process and how they are figuring it out.   Honestly I find when Todd does the shows there are more informative on what is going on.

Would you be a little concerned if you put your deposit down and paid $5000 in accessories and did not hear a peep out of Speed for over a year on the progress?  The weekly shows keep those concerns at bay.

Here's my honest opinion.

If Canam did videos on how they designed the X3, they'd get buried under an avalanche of criticism. Why did they decide to mount the front shocks that way? Why is the radiator used as the front bumper? Why is the chassis designed without proper triangulation? Why did they choose dual phase steel?

I don't really pay close attention to the X3, or I'd have a thousand other questions, but you get the point. From a strength standpoint, there is no defending some of the design choices they made. I'm not picking on them because they're Canam, if a sand rail builder made those same choices, I'd shake my head at him too.

Back when BRP was starting out, there was no social media, so RG using social media to spread info is unique to this time period. I think it's a very efficient way to spread the word, if the bottom feeders didn't think it was their job to troll everyone.

I think it's just a matter of semantics. You call it a method to keep people calm after they've placed a deposit, I call it transparency. Tomato = tomato, regardless of English accent or lack of.

Either way, Speed UTV's putting out a video a week. Even if I didn't have one on order, I'd watch them for the technical content. He puts out a lot of good info about triangulation, tube wall thickness, differences between ball joints, heim joints and uniballs, suspension design, steering design, CV design, wheel design, oil sump considerations, etc.

How long did these tires wait for a container? How long did they take to ship? Hopefully there being stored in a climate controlled enviroment.
They're tires bufu. They're mounted on vehicles. Are you trying to say that everyone in AZ should park all of their vehicles in an air conditioned garage?

I see you dont like the insults from Owl, but are quick to dish them out...LOL But I agree there just tires and no one will run these cheap stocker tires.

So Lord of Nothing, what is wrong with the Speed UTV? Is everything just peachy? Robby's doing a fantastic job taking yuge deposits and talking chit because he cant hit his own timeline? Why support him and say he was overly optimistic? He's no one special, if a business promises something they should deliver period.

As for Covid, he's a year late enough with that excuse. If he wasn't such a bully & amature businessman, he could have had production rolling for deposit holders already.

I am excited to see this whole Speed UTV business takeoff, yes I am very skeptical; but with any start up company everyone should be.

Whenever someone says they're doing something to be transparent, it reminds me of when someone starts a sentence with "not trying to be a Richard here, but..."

All you guys with deposits get free food and drinks at SSSS, sometimes the little things go a long ways.

Robby is delivering some great content on Instagram. The internet never loses. It’s great to see him comment on meme pages and let the internet do his thing lol.

Robbie is attempting to do something that is a lot bigger than his over inflated ego.

He is trying to build more cars in a year than SCU, Funco and Sand Limo combined but not as many as any of his competition.

He is jumping right into the deep end of the pool even he couldn't think he could do this without lots of missteps and bad choices. Then add in COVID and I think even Lee Iacocca would say WTF was I thinking, Not RG.  His little Youtube show isn't for transparency it's to keep the torches and pitch forks at bay. If you don't think that you need to slow down on the kool aide.

Not saying the cars won't be bad ass not saying they are not showing up. Diffidently not thinking RG is going to split with the money.

OK, be honest now.

Do you really feel his weekly updates are being done to deceive people, or to show them what's going on behind the scenes?

This sums it up perfectly:

He's honestly busting balls trying to get these delivered, but I don't think he's telling the troof either since he's in a pickle.  If he is actually transparent, people will leave in a mass exodus, which means his company dries up, so he's doing what he can to keep that from happening.  The truth is there's NFW he's close to real production that results in people getting their rides sometime in the next 6 months.  Keep in mind that the "production" units we see are merely pre-production mules in any other parlance.  These are likely built with hand-picked components from his suppliers so he doesn't go somewhere else with his large-batch order.  This is where a lot of the "pre-production" testing with other manufacturers like Polaris (which was shat on multiple times in this thread for rushing testing) is performed.

So, you tell me: do you want him to rush this and place his large-batch orders after a couple of weeks of testing (3-6 months is the fastest lead time I'm getting right now on build-to-order items), or do you think he's going to wait a couple of months before placing orders to vet actual production methods (not billet items built to dimensions)?  Keep in mind that even a couple of months of testing on production mules is still very truncated.

Hopefully he succeeds, I have friends who have money with him and I'd hate to see them get hosed.
