They can try to keep your money and the will be vigilant about it. Although once you mention legal representation. They seem to come to their senses probably 98% of the time. The dealers are bluffing you 100%. They know it but, they will put enough pressure on the customer to try and make them cave.Came across this and wondered what your thoughts are about it. Is it that California has a special law and other states do not? So is it possible somebody in Arizona or Nevada could get screwed?

Just from my experience. Most dealers don't want the bad press or go to court. Very few will burn the their own reputation over a deposit on a car that will sell anyway.
Oh and the most important part of the document in the photo. If there isn't a contract signed in conjunction with the "Non Refundable Deposit" It isn't valid. The form above is NOT a BINDING CONTRACT.
