Lets talk SXS's 2024

A Talon won their class at the Baja 1000 and finished 73rd overall. I think it took them over 36 hrs to finish.

The fasted UTV which was a Pro R, finished in about 27.5 hours and was 20th overall.

You're off by about ten hours or so?

So that would put the N/A Talon roughly 2 hours behind the Fastest turbo car?

That is some excellent advice for my type of riding. The basic 64" X3 has always been reasonably priced through the years. And it's still a turbo, great for the dunes. Sometimes I confuse myself with the offbeat models and offerings, but there have been several times when I think to myself something like "DUH!....there is a REASON why everyone bought X3's when they first came out, and continued to buy them!".

Regarding my OG Maverick which I sold in April, it served my personality well, because I had no problem hanging out in the small dunes or staying on the outer perimeter or driving through valleys. At Superstition Mountain west of Brawley, I drove it more aggressively. And in the desert it served my need for speed, because I actually am a very crazy driver outside of the dunes. At 4 Peaks and Queen Valley usually no one ever passed me going up, and I guarantee that no one ever passed me going down. I passed many, many vehicles, including X3 4-seaters. I'm thankful (and probably very lucky) that I never crashed that thing, not even a broken front end arm or spindle, only 2 belts broken at Glamis.
Stock YXZ is a blast in the desert hard pack. Shifting and deciding your RPM, as opposed to an automatic mash the pedal CVT car. As for suspension, the YXZ benefits greatly from dual rate springs and shock tune. Weller is in AZ and offers a lot of great options and support for YXZs. I'm biased as the only SxS I've ever owned is a YXZ and mine has a lot of mods (LT/shocks/gearing) but it's still an N/A car and I more than keep up with all the turbo Can-Am & RZR and sandrails in my group. The biggest struggle for my YXZ is straight up China Wall and racing up Olds. (I'm not beating anyone up either) a turbo would change that.

@Phoenix7 I have a 2018 Wildcat XX, it's been great for the most part. I've BEAT it to death almost 3 times..... but the newer models are exactly the same car from 2018 nothing ground breaking has changed. 3 Axle designs, trans gearing and a different clutch the rest of the rig is the same design and platform since 2018.

I like to call it a Pre-Production Prototype Speed UTV o_O I still get asked to this day what kinda of UTV model it is. Rarely seen in the the wild for a wildcat!

Thanks for your hands-on info about the Wildcat XX. It sounds like you really have had a lot of fun with it, and I know it is a solid choice for buying a SxS in 2024.

Thanks for sharing your feedback as a YXZ owner. And the info about Weller Racing support is excellent!

Is there a reason you are specifically looking at a Yamaha?

If it’s due to liking the Yamaha or their engines, maybe take a look at the Arctic Cat XX. It’s got the same 3 cylinder Yamaha engine as the YXZ, but it’s a high output version with 130 hp. The Yamaha YXZ is estimated at 114 hp, but Yamaha will not publish it on the specs?

Stock for Stock I’d say the XX chassis & suspension is the strongest off the showroom floor out of all the mainstream UTV’s you find on the dealer floors. The stock cage is plenty strong as it’s .095 wall tubing, like an aftermarket cage. The XX suspension is a shrunk down version of the Speed UTV and the handling is really good. It’s comes with Fox 2.5 shocks, that can be valved to be even better then stock. I’d highly suggest putting good Eibach or Hyperco springs on it, as the Stock springs are junk like all the brands.

Comparing the YXZ, RMax and the XX, they are all in the same lower $20K price range.

IMO the XX is an all around better machine vs the YXZ. The RMax is nice, but it’s really in a different category and not considered a true high performance desert machine.

Still some 24 X3 RSs out there in the low $20s as well. The 70hp will definitely be noticeable.

A 2025 RZR Pro S Sport for @ $25k would be hard to ignore as well...another solid choice.
74" Width, 96" Wheelbase, 181 HP Turbocharged Engine

Just saying there are ALLOT of choices.

I have not seen a Pro S Sport for $25K, I thought the MSRP on the 2 seat was closer to $27K, but your right Polaris does have the Pro XP Sport in the $23K range.

Your 100% right that there are allot of choices, in the low to mid $20’s. Price goes up a few grand if you need a 4 seater, but it’s still doable.

It might be fun or interesting to put a list of cars in a category/class & trim and list the MSRP. I bet we are shocked at what we see, and there are probably cars that would surprise us as to its category and price. I think allot of times we forget about a base trim, or even a model as it’s not what we mostly see or get convinced we need.

Base Trim 2024 Can Am MAV R are seen $8500+ off MSRP right now putting them in the $26k range to start.....just saying if you can live with a stock SXS with 240hp and great suspension, a robust DCT trans....LOL you can upgrade shocks, other stuff later.

Its hard to put $40k+ into a 2025 BNG SXS right now...unless you just have to be that guy with a 2025.

Maybe the 2 seater. I have had quotes on the 4 seat MavR that is literally just being delivered this week that are 6500 OVER MSRP plus freight. The 4 seat is on fire right now.

Correct, I was listing 2 seat prices.

The 4 seat you just got (getting) looks insane, I hope to see one this weekend along with Pro R 4's.
