Ghostly Adventures from Gecko

Stonehenge, funny you should mention the “PPP money pusher and trailer crowd”.  I was beginning to think I was the only one that knew the truth about the PPP program.  Those who know, know. One of the most ill conceived, destructive  programs in history.  A gigantic one trillion dollar reverse Robin Hood scheme, which is fueling the inflation going on now.  And so few even realize how we have been completely fleeced.  All of the looting that took place in the spring/summer of 2020 wasn’t seen on Fox News or CNN.
Not everyone is aware you can actually research  who received that money....

Interesting to look at "just" my zip code, the number of businesses who applied and what they received and the status of those "loans".
Ninety five % or more have been forgiven.
Lots of money here went to newly formed "businesses".
It's a small area and I've never heard of these businesses, seen any advertising for them and, if you ask friends and neighbors, no one else has heard of them either.
How do you have a business, with eleven employees, that the physical (not mailing) address is a 1 bedroom apt in a sort of sketch area of town?
Reeks of Breaking Bad - and these people received over a quarter of a million dollars that was then "forgiven".

I know this topic is played out, and the season is winding down, however a few casual observations.

Last season I did 99 days out of 180 in the dunes.  No not in a row, but you get the picture.

This season I will hit close to 80 out of 180 days, God willing and if the kungflu vacs' dont take me out first.

Say what you want about "Tom" and his quest for a war on ghost camping and the 14 day rule, well except for the chosen few he allows to camp around him like he did when he was on Gecko, a.k.a. f-n HYPOCRITE!!!  Yea, he has a few buddies that are way above the law and they camp indefinitely at the RRE nestled in his bosom.

All that aside, he single handedly conquered the entitled elitist's of the RRE that have ruled for almost two solid decades and cleared most of the pads and certainly Gecko road and campground.  He isn't chasing people off on the 14th day either, he actually is fairly mellow on that and doesn't get in your business until close to the 3rd week or longer, for the most part anyways.

Do people still pull fast ones and ghost camp, YOU BET YOUR ASS THEY DO, but 99.99% of it now is the PPP money pusher & trailer crowd.  These folks know Tom and the BLM won't/can't tow a pusher/trailer that is being left to hold space.  I'm sure Tom knows this and just goes for the low hanging fruit, i.e. trailers that ghost camp. Plus he does his drive byes hands out info brochures and knocks on the doors of the usual suspects to advise them it is time to move on, etc, etc. Although this group of pusher/box trailer folks typically do it leading up to a holiday weekend and are so painfully obviously doing it, they mostly do it on the pads, and have insurance, have money to pay a fine (not that they get ticketed) and could care less if they get red tagged, (have you seen what it costs for fuel? storage? not that they can't afford those costs but they are entitled and don't think they should, so they don't)  They the pusher/box trailer kidds just aren't doing it to much at RRE, for now anyways.  The second Tom leaves his post as camp host the RRE will be back, that you can take to the bank.

It is eerily weird driving through RR and not see the same moho's parked for 6 straight months with nobody in them. Must have been nice for some people to actually camp there this season for the first time in decades.

The point of this post is to merely give you a birds eye view of what took place when one individual attempted to help the BLM with a few rules.  A few rigs get towed, social media and the karens go nutts, and BAM there was way more parking.  Seriously more.

Now all you washers don't get to excited, just keep your dirty collective asses over on that side please.  I stated more parking, mostly on Sun-Wed, not enough for you kids to displace.   And if any of you think you can pull up Friday night on a holiday and park your 5 or more rigs, well Biden has some free crack pipes for ya.

Disclaimer: yes I had to move several times all season, and yes I never park in the same spot for more than 14 days without moving any appreciable amount of space, and yes I'm always with my rig. No, I don't miss the lazy do nothing camp hosts of yesteryear.  Do I like Tom, not so much, the ratt bastard always bets me to the leftover wood!

Enjoy.
You been quiet for a minute...welcome back

Interesting read, thanks for sharing.

Yes, its all a matter of public record.  Couple months ago, they published in the local business journal (Central Valley CA) a list of the largest PPP recipients in this area and amounts forgiven.  Got my adding machine, went to town, and it was over $100m by the end of page 2 of 4.   So, spread over the whole country, you can see how the numbers get huge fast (PPP and the equally ridiculous Employee Retention Credit program, well over one trillion and counting). And I can't see how any of the businesses listed suffered any type of loss from COVID.  For most, COVID was a boom for their businesses.

To call the PPP a "loan program" is a big misnomer.  It was a gift/grant/manna from the sky program, the recipient of which were folks who sign the front of a paycheck instead of the back.  In the spring of 2020, there was a complete mania to grab this money while it was there.  Businesses don't go into that sort of a mania for loans to protect their employees' paychecks.  No one cares about their employees THAT much.  Those who can read saw it for what it was, completely legal free money.  And, remember, this was no Biden or Democrat program.  To make it even more sickening, these folks were able to bully the bankers to get their paperwork to the top of the stack.  Effectively squeezing out the smaller businesses who had suffered real losses and needed the help.

So all that free money has gone to folks who's fortunes have already been made.  The manna from the sky went chasing Lear jets, property at Pebble Beach, boats, Prevosts, Monacos and every other manner of toy imaginable.  Also, all that free money (borrowed from China, newly printed) now chasing a return, causing completely irrational stock market rallies.  Meanwhile, these folks act like the Lords of all Creation, blaming the US's problems on Joe Six Pack sitting home and collecting unemployment.  And using the largesse and free time to try and squeeze everyone else out of Roadrunner apparently.

In five years (if it takes that long), when Social Security fails, when Medicare fails, when CalPers fails, when STRS fails, the real civil unrest will be getting started.  And we'll be looking back and wondering "what happened?".  This happened.  Yes, the last two years have made me cynical and pessimistic for sure.

I am not sure how widespread the PPP abuse goes, but I do know 3 people that "took advantage of it" and made more profit in the last two years than the previous 5 combined, even more in one case ...

Get this, some of the largest recipients in the Central Valley were farm labor contractors, they got tens of millions of dollars collectively.  Their business is simply to obtain, supply and be the middleman for (ahem, "legal") farm labor, putting those guys on their payroll.  They, in turn, charge the grower the actual cost of the wages plus 36%+-, which covers the workers comp, payroll taxes and the contractor's profit. So the "payroll cost" of the farm labor contractor in humungous.  Did the ag industry shut down during COVID, hell no!  After the shock of a week or two, business went on just like usual.  Yet the PPP program GAVE them tens of millions of dollars for absolutely nothing.  And there was nothing illegal about it.  I guess that's what happens when you write the law for a trillion dollar give away program in two weeks.

Just got home after my 8.5 hrs drive home from 5 days in glamis. Camped on Pad 3 with some awesome people.

Pad 5 was decently open.

Pads 1 to 3 were packed. Geckocampground wasn't too bad. 1 time I will be able to camp on the loop.

My daughter and I went for quad rides on there lil 80s and seen all the pads But freaking RRE was stoopid packed. It was holiday weekend nutts to butts.

We shall see.  I know the new camp host for next season..........  Not sure he will put up with anything.

As nice as being the camp host should be, no way I would want the job. Just way to many ass holes to deal with.
