1967 Dodge A-100 Hot rod sort of rat rod build thread.

It's a gasser, ummm, truck? 🤷‍♂️😜
that is what I thought at first, but look @ what kind of tires are on it & that it has 2 spares in the bed like a Baja/pre-runner/Trophy truck kind of thing (-ish. LOL).

Its a unique, one-off, hand built, specific purpose designed classic. LOL

Whole lot of projects going on at one time. AC receiver dryer, vacuum tank so the AC works with the bigger cam in the motor, vacuum block, flex fuel sensor, boost controller. Fuel pressure regulator, IAC, TPS, IAT sender, airbags, heated seats, air horns, etc. lot of wiring in this truck. Electronic transmission had 13 wires alone. Lots of tedious hand soldering and building.

Cool guy heat shield and shrink wrap on the plug wires. It looks cool from up top. Time to pull this thing apart and put the axles in it. Get some new shoes. We will see if my fixture and all of my previous experience makes this a less stressful process. I still have to make brackets and put some sort of clip where the four wires wrap around the frame.

Got tired of those windshield wipers flopping around and finally removed them. Even scratched the dash and I had to touch up the paint. Probably won't go back on because I won't be driving this truck in the rain. Have to decide if I'm going to leave the shaft on or somehow plug the holes.

Who made those headers?? Love the flanges on them. Not gonna be any leaks with those baby's 👍🏼

Those are Doug thorley sand rail headers. I was originally going to build a set but glad I didn't have to do that. That would have added another 60 hours to the project probably. These are heavy steel and will hold up well to boost

Well I'm getting better at getting these tires off for sure. My fixture helped a tremendous amount to keep everything from moving around. Once I have my two post rack in my garage at home setup it will even be easier. Don't get me wrong a lot of work to tear everything apart but that is just tedious time versus frustration.

Got one axle in there. The ring for the CV boot is about .040 away from the shock. Too close. Going to have to do some clearancing

New shoes and the axles are in. Rear suspension all torqued. Certainly getting better at doing this but it is still a crap ton of work. Hopefully I won't have to do it again for a long time. It will definitely be easier on a two post rack versus using a bunch of blocking on a four post. Too bad I could only get tires with date codes of October 2023. Although the rears certainly won't last three or four years. My guy at discount called his Warehouse guys and they would not go out and look through date codes. Bunch of b*******. Oh and a note to self, don't try Jack the back of the transmission and motor up with a Jack stand on the top of a TV tray top. Carnage will ensue. Lol. At least use a piece of plywood. Ha. Good thing I had blocking under it.

I came up with a better idea for the windshield wipers. Just take a 50 caliber bullet and drill the center out on the lathe and then put a small set screw in it. I think those bullets are around half inch diameter by a little over 2 inches long. Pretty sure I have some of those at home that I found out in the dunes on the other side of the canal from gecko. They might be bigger than that though. Paint them black.

Well it has been a good 15 to 20 years since I have dug in this box of bullets and shells. All of this was found out west of the canal off of I think pad three and five if I remember right. Found all the bullets and some of the wood that was all splintered up that they went through. Then we had to walk quite a ways to find the shells and the clips that hold them which all came out of the airplane when they were fired. I actually ordered the gold paint special to try simulate a shell and you can see the green ones are the original patina. I filled them with glamis sand to simulate powder. These have been laying on my desk for years. So I think the two shorter ones would work well to be machine and fit on those wiper arms. Then the ones that are mushroomed might be cool to mount somewhere on the truck as well.

Although the longer ones might be cool as well. And just a little more dangerous.

We found a bullet at the flagpole after a wind storm. Sandsharks kid ended up with it in camp. I looked up the marking online and determined it was an unexploded HE bullet. Be careful what you are drilling.

I was actually thinking about that. So if you look in the one picture the short ones have little holes in the bottom.

So I have nine of those bullets. Wonder how I could find out what these are. I don't see any markings anywhere although some of them are pretty Rusty from laying on the ground for probably 60 years. Would love to use a couple of these up there. Maybe find someone in town I could take these two and have them look at them. Certainly easy for me to set a couple up in the lathe and drill them out.
