Tesla

This is the screen shot of my Google search results. I can't swear it's correct, but my bill feels like it is.

The rest of my post about not spending over $100k for a car with 400 mi or less range is still also a valid point. My hybrid is still a better value at $23k new and 600 mi between 5 - 10 min. fill ups.
Ah, word. Screenshots I posted were from SDGE’s site of current rates (spreadsheet is actually the higher summer rates)

From a simple $/mile standpoint including purchase cost, sure. Camry pencils out, though you definitely aren’t touching a Camry for $23k right now.

But the Camry isn’t gonna do this:

Nor will it place 10th overall and win the Exhibition class with a stock drivetrain at Pike’s Peak:

https://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/ride-along-with-randy-pobst-in-the-tesla-model-s-plaid-that-dominated-pikes-peak/

So not at all apples to apples

Camry, other than total range (which is meaningless if we’re comparing daily commuters), is more comparable to a Bolt/Bolt EUV or a base Model 3. Base Bolt is $26k right now:

https://www.caranddriver.com/chevrolet/bolt-ev

259 miles of range, 0-60 in 6.7 seconds, slightly smaller interior (94 or 97 ft3 vs 100), but with a slightly larger trunk (17 vs 15). Getting to work and back, nothing’s gonna beat the Bolt right now $/mile.

Ultimately, up to whoever is signing on the dotted line.

We spent the weekend in San Jose, a friend / father of a teammate just got his Tesla a few weeks back. It was very interesting talking to him about all the cool features, gizmos and gadgets aka technology in that EV.

He talked about charging stations, the cool thing is the amount of mobile app's available to support his constant search for a charging station, mapping out his drive to include those stations, looking at which company owns those stations and their rate for his Tesla vs a Tesla station, the different charge rates those stations have available and calculating the amount of time for the miles to get from point A to B in X amount of time. His travelers and their needs wants to make stops, eat a burger or go shopping /. site seeing.....it became exhausting. Again, technology makes it 1000x's easy and super quick. It's his new hobby, I'm actually very happy for him as its fun to him.  Kind of like Geocaching I guess...LOL

My thoughts came to this conclusion....Heaven forbid you lose power, have no access to power or there is simply a power outage in that area. Secondly, what if the the local mobile network or weblinks / apps you use crash or are simply down?

If the zombie apocalypse ever happens, I can siphon gas out of the cars littering the streets for at least sometime.

Although when he honks his horn, the car FARTS!  I was ready to buy one right then and there...a farting car.

I'm so torn....

EV's are cool for their abilities and tech. It's the political side of their integration aka (Forcing) EV down our throats that has me angry.

Well then, I'll take my base Model 3 and be on my dirty way back to the washes...
Look for me in Wash 6.

Rhino with 6 people in it, Pit Bulls off the leash in camp, my Cousin tuning his Banshee at midnight....but just listen for the Mariachi music at 3am if you roll in REALLY late.

The EV Chevy BOLT looks really good to me....so please don't mock me with yore Tesla Model 3 if you stop by..

You wouldn't catch me dead in a Chevy Bolt. They're the Rzr of the EV world.

General Motors recalled 140,000 Chevrolet Bolts after some batteries caught fire.

LOL.  Peasant as in a normal-ish family can afford a base model, not the $100k Model S we're comparing a Camry to.

There is some great data and information on this thread - when it's accurate.  As is typical in todays world - tons of bad info too.  Interesting all the hate for EV's out there - in many cases its comical and based on inaccurate info or bad concepts.  The start of this thread's assumptions are faulty and on another thread comparing EV for towing - wrong tool for the job.  I don't think a Corvette would tow well but that's not a problem with the car - you are the problem if you purchase a Corvette and aren't happy with its towing capabilities.

There are tons of applications and situations that EV's are fantastic for.  I don't own an EV and generally don't see a time in the near future I will.  But I tow all the time, I drive long distances, I won't wait for a charge - my time is more important than cost.  I can't afford multiple cars for different functions - so I've stuck with a big diesel truck.

Now the government and Newscum ramming electric vehicles down my throat - that gets me upset!  But I'm mad that them, not hating on the EV or the advantages this technology will bring.  I think they have a place in many peoples commuting situation and hopefully they all adopt.  Just don't force everyone to adopt.
^^^^^^ All of this 100%

Wife is going to test drive the Electric Mercedes today. Because it's part of the Golf tourney. They want the women involved so the main sponsor Avondale Motors is letting the wives drive the new car. Go ahead dear......Enjoy the ride. Then she'll get back in the Raptor. Peace

Its interesting reading all of this. I don't hate the EV, I just don't see me getting one any time soon. When California pulls its head out of its a$$ and does something about improving the grid and stops issuing warnings like 'Do not charge your EV during peak times,,,,,or you will overload the grid'. Not to mention that came out just after they said everyone get an EV! Then maybe but I doubt it.

I have 2 or 3 friends that got an EV and at first they loved it! After a while, for various reasons, they fell out of love like a high school kid the day after prom.

I figure most, if not all of us live in houses where we COULD charge a car.  What about, i assume the majority of Americans, who live in apartments and condos?  How do you daily/weekly charge a vehicle when you park on the street, in a lot or a structure?

What would you have to do in 5 years when you would have 4 parked at your house, and your a small family?

I got to witness my GF play early morning car shuffle when she lived with her 3 grown kids.  That was enough for me to want to jump off a bridge. Had I had to do that to leave and to get connected to the charger I would be on a clock tower real quick.

Right after I posted, I realized I don't even have a garage so I would need some sort of outside panel and cords.  Love the idea of multiple cables laying out in the wet gravel/dirt, plugged into multiple vehicles.

BUT, the real end game of all this is to have us live in stacked boxes and ride gov-trains to our cubicle jobs and schools.  And eat zee bugs.

Tesla has public "Supercharging" stations.  15 minutes and yore good for 200 miles. There is one in a shopping center up here and it looks like a Tesla dealership (if Tesla actually had dealerships) . . .

Could a person charge their E-Bike there?

Asking for a friend...

I bought mine when gas was super cheap back in 2020.  Fiat 500e.  Cheapest EV being sold.  Almost throwing them away.  $5k off lease with 20k miles on it and they had like 30 to choose from.  They were shipping them from Cali to AZ.  Now they are selling for 13-15k.  Only has a range of 70-110 miles per charge depending on the weather out.  I was ready to buy a Tesla but decided to just use this as my test bed.  Its a blast to drive.  Its like driving one of those electric go-karts every day.

Still have my go fast toys, but this thing is just so easy to own.  They are not a solution for everything yet but the tech is on its way.  A Hybrid HD truck would be amazing.  No brake pad use - Recaptured energy.  Plentiful TQ thats instant.  Do away with transmissions.  No more seals, gaskets, fluids, etc.  I think this is where it at with current battery tech.  There are many prius out there with millions of miles.

I drive my Dmax At4 only when I have to.  Not racking up miles but have it available when I need it.

Yes and being able to keep people at home when they want.  Unfortunately kids will use it to miss school or work.

Instead of the old " Power went off last night and my alarm didn't go off" like in my day

It will be "The Government shut off power last night and I can't get to work until my car is charged"
