Speed UTV

Geez, leave the internet behind for a two weeks and sure 'nough the trolls still be-trollin.  I haven't had a chance to take mine out since the initial weekend, so I have basically nothing else to add other than I didn't feel any need to add EPS.

RG deserves every bit of it... That doesn't mean we don't want to see people enjoying their cars and sharing the good things..

They did a live show yesterday.  The only part I saw was RG explaining the beadlock.  Not sure if he discussed anything about shipping/delivery issues.
Apparently not, as there is some grumbling in Speedlandia.

today, they are going to show how to change the oil. yesterdays video they did a brief overview of the oil tank and pressure gauge

Hey, we gotta do something for entertainment...

We are just having some fun.  It is summer time.  LOL!

And I was just saying I was amazed how many more pages there were.  I get it, and mostly agree that RG/Speed should be providing fixes to customers free, not pushing more "upgrades" on us (at kind of ridiculous prices).  Overall their communication is abysmal (for example, I got the $1 Speed Key and I have heard it got approved, but have heard NOTHING from Speed about it) as well.

Still, so far I'm impressed (as is anybody that's checked it out in person).  BUT I still think belt temp/life is going to be a Yuge issue for G, and maybe even for hard-hard desert running.

My biggest complaint right now is that it's just sitting around in my garage doing nothing...

I think later today/tonight there will be an update on the status of the Speed Key.  From what I understand it has been EPA/CARB approved and somehow in this long process Speed never put together the paperwork for the customers.

Hopefully they find a fix for the clutching/belt life.  There will not be many sources for a fix with the limited number of cars currently delivered.

How is it that there are so many tunes out there? I was just reading something on Facebook and everyone's asking if they have tune 7 or tune 8 and even if they have the same tunes they have different max rpms and such. Sounds like the beginning of a multi-million dollar EPA lawsuit

They are tune revisions, not complete new tunes... AFAIK EPA etc. view that differently.  Obviously the number of revisions is excessive, but it's not at all uncommon for manufacturers of "regular" cars/trucks to have TSBs for tune revisions.  That said, I can't say that I know whether or not those get EPA scrutiny.

Any needless jabs at Polaris/Can Am?

I assume they self-certify that this is just a minor revision knowing full well that the EPA could VW them into oblivion.

The following year’s certification should include all revs to date. God help you if there’s a discrepancy.

I did not watch the show last night.   Does not seem like much information is provided with the current shows.  We went from the Speed crowd saying "they are so open and honest" to "WTF".

With the huge discounts on pricing offered by Polaris and Can Am not sure how much longer Speed can keep those patiently waiting for their cars to stay on board.  Would not be shocked if we see more spots for the El Jeffe go up for sale once Can Am announces the release of the 4 seat Maverick R.

Speed has the 2024 certification.   With how known it is of the tune changes I can't imagine them not being within what is allowed by CARB.

It think it might be, which might be the real reason why michael.gonzalez's motor let go. They said the boost cut threshold wasn't there and it lifted the head, but it could be cylinder pressure/detonation from running leaner.

Reason I'm not believing the boost threshold story is in the E85 tests, you can see the power dying off:

Scaling makes it look worse than it really is, but I don't think that wastegate is open.  If the boost pressure was lifting the head, then the E85 tune would definitely lift the head.

I would not be overly confident with the E85 tune considering they are having issues with a simple 91 tune.

Speed would of been better off letting the aftermarket tuners have at it with E85 tunes.  Speed would have no liability and it would be on the customer if the motor went boom.  Of course that would require Speed to get enough cars out there to make it worth the effort for the aftermarket tuners.

Aftermarket also doesn't exactly have to comply with the EPA.

@Sand Shark Curious if RG shows us how to make his beadlock work at pressures where you actually need a beadlock...?
The problem wasn’t the bead lock it was the inside of the rim. I don’t think it was a big enough inside lip for the tire to pop  over. It was always the inside that came off.
