Engine choice for a future Hot Rod build

Maybe it is just me, but putting any LSx engine it would be too easy, and I think they look cheap.  I like people that go out on a limb and put something somewhat original.  Now the LSx with the fake carb look on top somewhat satisfies me.  But building a classic car and then putting an LSx in it is kind of boring to me.
Why do you think they look cheap? Such a good engine to make reliable horsepower on pump gas. I personally like to move the coils which I will do on my truck and clean up the top end of the motor.

They make great power and super affordable, no argument.  But when I walk car shows and see a vintage vehicle with LS in it, I just lose some respect.  Really no idea why, just not my thing.  I think it is just how the top of the motor looks???  Now if you put an LSx in an old Mustang, I really lose respect, and I have seen that before as well  :classic_biggrin:

I somewhat agree with @Cookie on this.  Maybe it's because a lot of them are kind of ugly.  When they leave the stock LS1 intake on it and all of the ugly crap that comes with it or try hide it all under  an ill fitting piece of plastic....  just looks like it was half ass'd.

Now if you do a good job with the harness, move the coils down out of view and use an intake like this....  sexy as hell!!!!

Nothing sounds worse than a Coyote with a cheap chinesium cat back. :sogross:
Ayep. Why mine has remained stock.  Miiiiight throw an X pipe on it to replace the resonator, but it's plenty loud stock.

Problem with that is it loses an assload of torque, and only gains power above 6500rpm.

Ya, somewhat agree...kind of trendy and boring looking for sure.  But some companies do a good job to make them look more old school / better...i like these guys...lots of pics on their site.

True, but in this case...  how much HP does his wife need?  Maybe she needs it all.....  but if he's looking at a V6 as a choice...  I'm guessing form over function wins this time.

Anything like my wife... All of it.  LOL.  Woman scares the chit out of me...

Then maybe take a few more degrees of timing out of it.....

once i ran across this vijeyho i started thinking this would be cool to put in a sand car, or a fun street car, hot rod etc.

Damn that sounds nasty.  I wonder what it's going in that a 6 into 1 will work....  I wonder how much he has into it.  Frankenstein stuff is not cheap.

Taking an old car and building a rusty hot rod is so outdated already, it's been done a million times and is most boring to look at. The same goes for anything built with an LS engine. Anyone with an internet connection, a mig welder and a milwaukee cordless drill calls themselves a fabricator and builds rusty old cars with an LS engine, SOOO BORING! You want to build something unique, why not build a car and instead of clear coating the rust, make the body incredibly perfect and apply so much paint it looks like you could dive into it (trust me there's few painters still around who can actually do this), back in the day (1981 for me) going to an RG Canning show in LA and looking at all of the meticulously perfect low riders on display demonstrated true craftsmanship.  And instead of the usual old LS engine with a turbo (WOW look a turbo) why not use something different, a 13B rotary perhaps, they're tiny.

While I'm at it, anything fancy and plasma cut has been done way too many times and doesn't get anyone's attention anymore. It's way too easy to have a part cut out of sheet metal, at first glance it may seem cool but the reality of it is it's just another part cut out on a plasma table and is totally not unique anymore.

I'm not trying to piss on anyone's cheerios, this is just my take on what's being built lately. You want to set yourself apart from everyone, study them all and build something different. Posting every step along the way also tends to cause most to lose interest, instead maybe post important milestones of the project with a single photo, that in itself makes the reader more interested. I don't want to be a hypocrite so I'll admit I was guilty of this too when I posted a thousand photos of my new sand rail frame project, but interestingly enough I've stopped doing that, it will be seen when it's ready to be seen.

Don't get yawll's panties in a wad over my post, it's just an editorial.  :classic_cool:

The chassis looks to be set up for a Ford 9".   He'll be good.... :classic_cool:

No need build a sweet little ride with a ton of fab, expensive chassis,, then drop a turd in the engine bay...LOL.

If he wanted to go stick shift. There are kits to do Honda K series to plentiful Nissan CD009 trans that will handle well in excess of the HP noted prior...

It is like you are reading my mind both engine and trans.

Outdated. Lol. So what have you built?

I haven't and likely never will, it doesn't stop me from having an opinion about hot rods though.

I did suggest an alternative engine option for you.  :classic_wink:
