Engine choice for a future Hot Rod build

I wasn't familiar with the remote water pump setups for an LS and found this guy on youtube. He is pretty funny.

LS3 would be a no-brainer awesome. Easy peasy. When I talked to the frame guy he was very hesitant but really the motor isn't much longer than the V6. Nice to know about these other things to make it shorter.
any kind of oil pan you can think of also, you want to keep it light, then aluminum sheet metal oil pan, poly intake and no water pump with aluminum ati dampener, electric or no power steering and you can do the small alternator,  GM Denso Style 1-Wire Mini Race All Black Alternator, 90 Amp (speedwaymotors.com) with adjustable bracket,  and i bet the weight comes down around 400lbs

I'm thinking 4 cylinder.  You aren't going to have a bunch of room in there.  But, then theoretically, a V-6 is shorter than a 4.

A 4cylinder out of a Toyota PU.

There is a limit to what your rear-end will hold.
The chassis looks to be set up for a Ford 9".   He'll be good.... :classic_cool:

No need build a sweet little ride with a ton of fab, expensive chassis,, then drop a turd in the engine bay...LOL.

If he wanted to go stick shift. There are kits to do Honda K series to plentiful Nissan CD009 trans that will handle well in excess of the HP noted prior...

That sounds pretty cool. I wonder how often one of these motors comes up out of a wrecked car. The other thing that scares me about all these new motors is if we run a Holley standalone system dealing with variable valve timing and variable oil pumps for emissions. That stuff all is a pain in the ass.
They come up plenty, but they're spendy as compared to the NA or even the lower-spec turbo versions of the high-tech/content V6 family: https://www.ebay.com/itm/285277218157

I'm not sure I even agree theoretically, the banks are of course offset to make the crankshaft for a V possible.  Sure, it's not a 50% offset, but still bore spacing is often larger on something like a 3.6 V6 vs. a 2.0L I4 so that can (more than) make up the difference.

Check out luvzilla_74 on instagram. he has two chevy luv trucks just on dyno yesterday. KATG built the body on one of them

So that motor in that car is 305 horsepower. The Edelbrock supercharger kit bumps it to 376. So it sounds like a turbo added would be pretty easy to do the same thing. I'm guessing there's a lot of these motors out there.
Camaros are stupid easy to steal, get featured in a street takeover vid, then dumped.  I assume they're easy to find.

I will say I would not want a naturally aspirated V6 just because I don't like how they sound no matter what you do with the exhaust.
Yeah.  The last 2 on this video are the only ones that sound not ear-gouging:

But still not awesome.

My vote for packaging:

You can get some aftermarket parts for them to make pretty good power, you already know how to work on them, they're lighter than the above engine, and probably more reliable as well (the 3.6L isn't exactly renowned for its durability). Simple Holley setups will run it.

Happy with my choice...you save some money with not buying the complete engine too...ebay and from a chevy dealer - I bought two from them and no issues - then pieced together all the other parts - and purchased things like injectors that come on the actual full LS3 / 525 from gm....In my case the pan that came with the engine worked out too in the C10.  Nice part was I already had a tune and just used the Holley terminator max.

I hate the sound of the new V6s.  As @Rockwood said the last 2 in that video are the best sounding but I would still hate it.  If I had to have the V6 I  would MUCH rather make it so quite I could not hear it, even at the sacrifice of HP.

I wonder what getting rid of the cats, putting long tube headers on it would do for it..

But....  the beauty of hot rods....  they don't have to pelase everyone just the owner.

Cats generally take the rasp out, so it ends up worse.  LOL

Maybe it is just me, but putting any LSx engine it would be too easy, and I think they look cheap.  I like people that go out on a limb and put something somewhat original.  Now the LSx with the fake carb look on top somewhat satisfies me.  But building a classic car and then putting an LSx in it is kind of boring to me.

Talked to Scott at Art Morrison this morning and he said they have done four or five of these chassis. Very competitive on pricing so I would go that route. 22 in wide between the rails and 47 in hub to hub. Maybe work the 9 inch in the back for around a 275 tire. 6 to 8 months to get a chassis. Four link setup with wilwood brakes. I think an LS and a 4l60 would be the ticket. Especially for my wife. This would be her car.
