1964 Dodge A-100 Hot rod sort of rat rod build thread.

I bet it's kind of strange being so quiet.  

 
No easy way to make these little brackets. Made it simple and just welded 7/16 nuts onto the frame and wheel well. Then bend up each bracket one at a time. Pain in the ass. I have two of eight done. Very difficult to get up in there with the welder so I will clean that up when it is back apart. Although you don't see any of this.

Yesterday and this morning I have been staring at this and still struggling on how to build this fuel tank. I have so little room underneath to try mount in a1000 externally. On the other hand I'm very tight on space for an intake pump. This Holley will go down to 7 in tall plus what sticks out the top so let's call it 8 in. It looks like I can get it at the very back to pick up fuel. I think I have 9 or 10 in to try make it fit. But then I'm taking away fuel volume doing it that way. Never built a fuel tank before but either way this job is going to be a b****.

I think I have to be certified just a little bit nuts. This is going to be one hell of a job to build this out of aluminum.

The "wings" are probably unnecessary.  How much did the middle section calculate out too?  It's highly unlikely that 10 gallons won't get you to where you're going.

I originally wanted 25 gallons. If I drive this thing to LS fest in Texas I want to be able to have some range. My original design was right at 19 to 20 gallons and I'm hoping this new design will be 20 to 22. Out on the road I would think this thing will do pretty good on mileage if I'm staying out of the boost. I did pull those outer pods in one more inch away from the tires. The other thing I might do is on the outer edges where the tires are weld in some angle aluminum for extra structure and strength. Pretty happy with this design if I can just get it built the way I want it. I don't think it will be rocket science. I have a 4 ft by 12 ft .090 sheet of 5052 sitting at the metal yard ready to be picked up.

For me...  A fuel tank only has to last my tolerance for staring at the windshield, or the capacity of my bladder. 3 hours is pushing it.  10 or so gallons would do.  LOL

My red car has an 18.5 gallon tank. 568 rwhp so similar power level. I drive this car like an idiot and you can just watch the needle move. It drinks fuel.

This crazy 6x6 rear engine Humvee is also at the auction this year. Super cool vehicle.



 
I was originally going to do dimple die in this back cover plate but wasn't happy with that idea. I like this much better. Ready for some rust on the logo and then bronze paint on the panel. You only see this when the tailgate is open. That piece is cut out of 1/8 thick steel.

4x12 piece of .090 thick 5052 aluminum. Once my pump and sender get here I will be ready to start bending up some aluminum. I think I have a good game plan to build this. That sucker was not cheap.
