1964 Dodge A-100 Hot rod sort of rat rod build thread.

I think I can make this work with a curved piece of hose. Couple of clamps. This is still about three quarters away from the back of that fan. I wanted to have this figured out before I build the radiator mount and put it in place.

Powder coat shop thinks they might be able to powder coat my fuel cap without me trying to press the four roll pins out of it. Really don't want to damage it. Would like to have this thing black. Big weld day tomorrow see if we can get this tank welded. When we were tacking it together even one inch long welds were cracking and pulling apart because this thing expands and pulls in so many different directions. Hopefully with all the clamps on it it will hold. Once there's enough weld on it it's not going to want to pull apart. Looks like an LS3 pan might be better than the Corvette batwing oil pan. Running a string from the bottom of front and rear cradles I still have 2 in of clearance with the LS3 pan. I could even go deeper but I think an LS3 is probably six to six and a half quarts.

Any guesses on how much that tank is going to hold. I'm going to guess 17.5 gallons.

I have about four and a half by 4 ft left. So an 8x4 sheet would have been enough. Extra for the shop for the next project.

Would help if I know the overall width height and depth. In inches. Hehe.

Looking good baby !

Between last weekend and today 13 and 1/2 hours just to spot and weld it together to this point. Gave up on trying to weld it slow and not have it warp up. You could spend days and days going slow and even then probably still have it warp. If I built another one I think I would use .120 instead of 0.090. there's just so much area that is not supported. I would say another 4 hours to build the two remaining little pods.

Sitting here thinking about this. I watched quite a few videos on people building fuel tanks on youtube. If you run a long weld along a 90° edge with two pieces meeting each other it doesn't warp because of the strength. All of the warping on this happened from a t joint where it is flat around the weld and no support or strength. I don't think there's anything you could do other than use thicker material and go slower. This thing will be more than fine holding the fuel. Super happy with it so far.

So now I have to make a decision for the condenser. First pic in red would be something like a 16x18. Condenser would drop out of the bottom without touching the radiator. This smaller unit would work. Second pic in green would be more efficient. But to remove the condenser the radiator would have to come out. Hoping the radiator can be removed without pulling the front drive setup. Just the TB and turbo piping. Talked to Vintage air this morning and they carry this monster condenser Sicker than a dog at home today but I think this unit will fit. He said the core is 27x16. I think my rad core is that wide. I guess go big and just pull the rad if the condenser needs to come out. Really want cold ac during our hot summers.

the older I get the more I like my AC (& I dont live in the heat).  I dont ever turn it off..............

Thats cool. Zoomies! That is a 3 window vs a 5 window. Like the 5 better.   Sitting at home today again. Day 5 of being really sick. Just want to work on my truck. Been thinking about what this truck might weigh in at. My original estimate of 3300 lbs will probably be pretty low. Someone last week looking at the truck said 4000 lbs. I don't think it will get that heavy.  So maybe 3500-3600 more realistic. Original weight was 3040 but I did remove the 160lb factory weight at the back under the bed and rear bumper. So 2880 starting plus everything I removed from the truck. Included front and back straight axles, leaf springs, some of the unibody steel, etc. It will be interesting. 1964 was the first year and 6 cylinder only. My guess is the LS V8 would be the same weight or even lighter.  Pic of a cool Ford Econoline.

Since I am sick and can just sit here and piss away time, I have been listening to truck and car horns on youtube for two hours. lol. Really like the old 4 note Cadillac horns but can't even find a set used. Probably stupid money anyway. I actually like the original Denali Motorcycle horn. 7:35
