1964 Dodge A-100 Hot rod sort of rat rod build thread.

What would be really cool is if there was a way to make the wheel wells all Rusty and the same color/faded/beat up as the rest of the bed.

But....  at some point the old has to meet up with then new.....

Ya, I have thought about that quite a bit. Keep coming back to painting them bronze. I would really like to paint some parts with 3 colors and then sand through and patina. Nothing seems to have gone that direction.

First draft of just the idea of bead roll only in the side panel. This will probably change 10 times. I don't know if I want just bead roll or go more with dimple dies.

Make a dimple die version & tape it on there.  :)

Plus the shape of the panel not being uniform is not right. I was trying to clear the upper arm. so it is thin then wider. I think it needs to be uniform.
Maybe the scallop idea will help to hide the distance iaaues

We set the main hoop with a 2° set back. :apple: thankfully our general manager can build roll cages. I was watching on YouTube but even then I think this would have been above my pay grade to get this hoop bent up correctly.

My bedside Gusset pieces have the largest dimple die which is 2 1/2". But you have to have enough space on the outside for 5 in. Those gussets had four holes in them each. On my inside fender well pieces if I make that piece 6 in wide I can fit six of the same size dimple die holes in there. Just have to put a notch for the upper a arm. I know I'm going to like this design. I've never seen it done like this on a truck either. Which is even more cool. Ton of work to finish these wheel wells. I'm ready for a couple day break from this thing.

The Corbeau belt set is pretty nice. Although the crotch strap is in a weird place and I don't think I'm going to end up using it. So this thing will be a four point system. It's going to be tricky making the lower lap belt mounts. Not quite sure how I'm going to do that yet. It might not be pretty. These things expire in 2 years. I better get my ass in gear.

The second panel came out even nicer than the first one. My corners are damn near perfect. For sure started getting a hang of it. Now I know why you don't see this kind of work on very many vehicles because it is so labor intensive and custom. I also almost got the perfect amount of pre-stretch with the English wheel. Certainly can see how practice makes you better with this. Bought some cheap eBay non-coil Mount valve covers. I will weld two dash 10 bungs in and I'm hoping to mount the breather down low. Just in case there's any fine oil mist I keep it out of the back of the bed. This is a long way off.  I'm going to go ahead and have my little rusty wagon logos cut out of quarter inch thick steel plate. I just think them being thick and beefy will look cool.
