I was thinking about adding a backing plate behind the six dimple dies in each wheel well. So you don't see that much tire. But the more I look at it I think it needs to stay the way it is. Maybe I'll cut a piece of metal out and put it there and take a look at it. I left an inch and a half for tire flex which is more than enough so I could add a backer plate if I wanted. Now it's starting to look like something.

Know you probably won't be taking it out in bad weather, but you never know when you are out and find water from some source. Think of ways to keep road grime out of bed area and off motor. Wheel well plates may be a good idea.

With that old wood liquid nailed together and being so dry I will not drive this in any weather. It is very dry and fragile but I love the old look. Photos don't do it justice. Just park it. It is more about looks.

I have an idea I think might be pretty cool. Behind each of those dimple dies put a piece of expanded metal like I used in my guitar art project. Paint it flat black so it is subtle.  But some light would still come through. You would not be looking directly at the back of the wheel and tire.

I haven't kept up with the whole build but curious why the need for the roll bar coming out the back.

With that the truck will have a full 10-point cage. Frame should have very little flex.

I wanted to hide the stuff under my engine cover and when it was all raw aluminum it worked great.  I could almost not see anything under the mesh.   Then I had the brilliant idea of powder coating it....  making the mesh black made everything under it stand out like a sore thumb....  idiot.....

Still looks good. That has a little more space than the stuff I was thinking about. Smaller holes vs larger. Although I really like the look of what you have. Hmm. Might have to go peruse the metal yard. They now know me on a first name basis. ha.

It's funny sometimes you look at a job and think oh that will be easy. And then it ends up taking a lot more time. I think the flat black accent will look good against the bronze once these are painted.

Only 18 gauge steel just like the fenders. So I will probably attach a couple substantial angle brackets under each lip of the wheel well for additional strength. Although these would be plenty strong enough I would think. They don't make a square headed Allen bolt wood screw so I ended up buying these. They have a gold tint to them so I think I'm going to Glass bead the coating off and then rust all the heads with muriatic acid. I don't know, maybe look at it with the gold on it and with a little contrast see how it looks. This will be a time consuming process to make all of the trim pieces around each woods section from this point.

Out in the shop the last couple days prepping hot rods so I have not got much done. The logos are going to float about .800 above the surface of the valve cover. Need to  unibit a 5/8 hole for each spacer and then weld it from the inside

This week I am going to get serious about this fuel tank.  Ordered some heavier chipboard so I can make a better template. Decided I am going to have a small sump in the bottom and then use an external pump. I have a spare Aeromotive 1000 for the Funco and might just throw that in there. Check out the baffle design in the Classic Car Studio Dirty Martini build. Starts at .45. I think that is such a cool design and might copy part of it.
