VW Sandrail Owners Still around?

OP also stated that he wanted something for this season
Let's say he buys a sandrail tomorrow for $8k. There's no guarantee that it's ready to drive this season. From what I've seen, most people sell their rails when it's due for a tranny rebuild, even if the ad says "tranny gone through last season."

Go take a look at the tranny thread, someone posted he just bought a Funco (for a LOT more than $8K) and it needs a tranny rebuild. Based on parts availability, there's a good chance he's not going to get it fixed before the end of the season, despite spending a lot more than $8k. I feel for the guy, but the reality is, just because you buy it now does NOT guarantee you'll be driving it this season. If I had to give odds, I'd say the odds of having no trans problems is less than 50%. When I bought my rail, the seller let me ride in it for hours. I bought it, then the 2nd trip out, it needed a new mainshaft bearing. So it was not defective at the moment when I bought it, but it needed repair right after I bought it.

Now if one buys a new Speed UTV, it comes with a 6 month warranty.

To put it simply, 25" of travel from a Speed UTV is far better than 5" of travel from a beam car. Conversely, a trophy truck is better than the Speed UTV, but not by the same margin as the first comparison. Considering you can get 5" of travel for $8K, or 25" of travel for $32k, or 40" of travel for $700k, even you can see where the sweet spot is.
So why not 18” of travel from a used xp1000 for $12k or 22” of travel from a used CanAm for $20k? I mean they are available today. You see the point.

You left out talking about how great the speed sxs is with zero actual experience of driving a speed sxs. Or naming all the things that will be wrong with a cheap rail right off the bat.
Oh, my bad. I guess the videos of the Speed UTV driving through the desert were all faked.

Can he finance a used SxS?

Remember the part where I mentioned it was my opinion 3 different times?

I wouldn't buy either of those, even for $8k. That's my opinion.

WTF is wrong with this LOTD douche anyway? I can’t decide if he’s just a troll or RG’s alter ego

The person stated he wanted a buggy, and gave his max budget. You gave a list of specs of a non-existent sxs. You told him he could buy a "number" under 1000 for $32,000. From what people are saying, those spots will sell for more. He stated he wants to be in the sand this season. Your theory that since it can be financed the price doesn't matter is silly. Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't the Speed have to be bought from a dealer to be financed? Or if financed through a personal loan, why not just buy a real sandcar, if he has to spend that much money. Another thing that should be considered about your financing idea: how much would he actually pay for this loan? Years financed? Value of the product when the huge loan is finally paid off? Sorry, I  am not even going into you quoting your Robby's life history.
As far as I know, it's very difficult to finance a used sand rail or SxS. Speed already has in house financing lined up, if someone needs it. The Speed UTV is as real as you are. No, I can't buy one right now, but I can't buy you, either. However, people should be driving them around before the end of the season. Unlike a sand rail, these can be driven in other places, year around.

Finally, I think I've made it clear how it compares in value to a used $8k no travel sand rail. It's by far the cheapest way to get a 4 seater with 25" of travel and 300 hp. Show me any sand rail under $70k with 3.25" shocks.

I didn't read the previous posts, but I'll say this, I had a 1915 vw turbo, and it went anywhere with ease. I built the engine myself,  all forged internals, 14 psi of boost, on pump gas with methanol injection. It was a monster. Mid travel set up, 3x3 arms on the rear, 2x4 arms on the front. It worked pretty damn good.
Do you still drive it?

Why not? Upgraded to something better? Why do that if it was so much fun?

It looks like someone is saying one thing, but did something different.

To the OP, while buying a used vehicle can have its issues, a vw powered motor doesn’t have a lot of torque. Because of this, they have less transmission issues. In fact, older sand cars that don’t have much suspension have the best chance for long lasting transmissions. Keep it simple if that’s the route you want to go. A 1915 with a good set of carbs will be a reliable long lasting motor and won’t be hard on transmissions. Good luck shopping!

It’s not difficult at all. I applied for a personal loan from my bank online. Went to the bank two days later to get the money. Purchased a 2017 xp1000 that week. My son drove the crap out of it all last season. No break downs just standard maintenance. Bought it for $11,500.

Don't forget to mention - buy a Unisyn. I can't tell you how many trips I saw guys trying to clean the clogged jets out of their carbs or trying to sync them in camp.

They didn't require some proof of it's value?

How much would that XP1000 cost now? $17,000? Would they give you that much for the loan? Do you think that's a good deal? Remember, everything is Covid pricing now.

It was a personal loan not a vehicle loan so they didn’t ask. If you are patient, you can find them. I have seen quite a few from $12-$14k.

crap up threads. The rest of us are trying to help the op out.
You’re the one going around crapping up every thread you “impart your knowledge” in. You’re not helping anybody. You just go from one thread to another and argue with everyone that’ll participate. You’re just a di*k

Not that serious to blow out $12k for a used RZR...oh I will never own a RZR,but show me a Can Am for 12K and I just might.  I'll just stick to cruising around on my dirt bike.  I know VW's have shitty suspension and I aint looking to blast through Sand Highway.  I can cruise and take my time as I've had plenty of years blasting through whoops on my Turbo Wildcat.

I state my opinion and back it up with facts.

You're the one incapable of defending your opinion, so you resort to childish name calling for all to see. Excellent job!
