Yes I like the 8.1/Alison combo, and that’s why I’m in no hurry to look at something else. If & when we do, it will be a few years old, and it will have to have that new Ford V8 Godzilla engine in it. I’m told that's the gas engine to get if buying a new gas RV. 
 

I also think if Ford would do the new Diesel engine in a gas RV chassis would be awesome. I’m not sure why they don’t, but I’m sure there is a reason they don’t. 
The reason is probably just a marketing thing.  RV manufacturers would need to tack $10k+ onto an RV for it to have the diesel powertrain, and at that point they want to be pushing buyers up into diesel pushers.

check out https://www.ultrarvproducts.com/ for chassis parts/upgrades. They were great to work with when I had my Kodiak-super C and did a bunch of suspension work to it including front and rear track bars, sway bars, Koni shocks, etc.
Years ago I spoke to these guys. Brazils is the shop name. They do computer tuning like a Banks kit, but they were all about the Chevy 8.1 along with Workhorse chassis improvements.

It helped a little bit, but I think more of my comfort issues are with the front. Plus the stock square tube swaybars Workhorse used was a dumb idea. A traditional swaybar will be much better.

Agree, the factory front “sway bar” is a joke. The Kodiak trucks use the same thing. I put a front track bar and sway bar and it made a noticeable improvement in handling and steering response 

 
Made a huge change this year! Ordered a 2022 Renegade Verona super C in January and picked it up in July! I then retired in September! We've been on the move since and have 12,000 on the Renegade and having a blast! We now have our 06 FunMover for sale if anyone is interested.

Picking this up tomorrow... starting to get excited! I was not a fan of the colors, but they are starting to grow on me.

sold our Discovery in June of this year... Looking forward to seeing how the cummins 450 does w/ the stacker (this was the only reason I sold the discovery)

Congrats, that's a nice rig...the colors are cooler then allot of the dark stuff....but it will look really clean in the dunes.

Those are GREAT colors.  As I've posted before my Dutch Star was mostly black (and I PC'ed the wheels black, etc.) which looked gangster AF, but how we all use our RVs it's a terrible idea.  Those are the perfect colors for a desert person.

Same... the discovery was black, grey silver etc... which is the color I like all my stuff to be lol.  It is growing on me for sure, and definitely more practical for being in the desert... but am I just thinking this way because I'm getting old lol... ahhhh haha.

This has been a great M/H.  2003 Allegro on the workhorse 8.1/ Allison chassis.  I keep wanting to step up to a DP for the longer trips like Idaho, but the time will come.

No where near as nice as some of the other RV’s. But it’s been good for our family. 2003 Fleetwood Southwind 33ft on a Workhorse W22 chassis with the 8.1 & Allison trans.

 I’m also going to talk about adding a front axle track bar and maybe a real sway bar to make it drive better. 
I love my W22 too! I definitely read up on improving the ride and mine actually already had a rear supersteer trac bar installed. I then added the front Roadmaster Tru-Trac up front and went Koni shocks all the way around. Night and day! No more getting pushed around by the big rigs or road wander by grooves etc. Very solid. My next mission is to figure out my A/C in the cockpit as it sometimes decides to take a break. I was reading a simple $8 napa shutoff valve at the heater core would fix it. Something about the heater still circulating hot coolant through the heater core when the A/C is on. Shutoff the valve and supposedly the warm air stays out.

What year, make and model? That’s a great looking rig! Very interested to hear how it tows your stacker. I’m in the market currently and looking for something similar and also plan to get a stacker.

For veterans day, I did a boys trip with my buddy... and he has a similar sized motorhome w/ the 450 in it... and we were towing his much bigger stacker (26') with both our cars... and it seemed to have zero issues with the grades.  My stacker is only 20'... so I'm hoping it'll do the trick.  The real test will be when we do a Dumont trip and have to go up the Cajon Pass.

 
One thing I forgot to point out earlier: I love how they carried the paint scheme onto the sides of the slides.  Our DS and our MA were/are like that, but I've seen other coaches at way too high of a price point not do that.

Yeah I love when they do that.... American coach does it on all their models... but yeah my old discovery was just solid colors on the slides.

I love the Newmars... that's what I really wanted... almost ended up with a 2013 mountain aire, but the guy was in Florida and not very responsive... pretty sure it sold quick.  I really wanted to comfort drive, and love the look of the girard awnings.

still excited to see how this one does... long wheelbase, Tag, Heavier... 450 w/ side radiator and true engine brake, spartan chassis etc.... I know when I went from my gasser, to the discovery... drivability was a world of difference.  Honestly the discovery drove very comfortably... just sucked on the grades.  I'm sure the 450 wont be a rocket up the grades, but I'd be happy with 50mph.

You'll be good with the 450, it looks like your coach has a GVWR of 44,600 which means it's prob in the mid-30ks by itself, and probably come in around 45 combined w/ the stacker.  My Dutch Star had a 450/1250 ISL but it weighed around 40k by itself, and 52k+ with the stacker:

It did just fine.  Up the steepest parts of Highway 80 going over Donner Summit it could only hold the top of 3rd gear, which was 35-37 MPH.  But in those same sections the loaded big rigs are literally doing 10-15 MPH.  On flat open ground going through Nevada I could set CC at 77 no problem.

How are you getting the "dry weight" numbers? I was always under the assumption that the manufacturers rated these things to where GVWR was pretty much what you were at, once you filled up tanks, water, put a few kids inside with your stuff for the weekend?

I really need to weigh my stuff this season... Even though the stacker is 20'... I swear that thing is close to 15klb loaded

I was just guessing, TBH.  I found a 2011 American Coach Revolution brochure: https://www.rvroundtable.com/wp-content/uploads/American Coach/American-Revolution/2011.AmericanRevolutionBrochure.pdf which is why I found the 44,600 GVWR.  However, it doesn't list an Unloaded Vehicle Weigh (UVW).  I'm guessing at a ~10k CCC on a coach like that, so "mid 30s" curb/UVW (not dry) weight would be my guess.  Other ones have UVW, here's the brochure for my MA: https://library.rvusa.com/brochure/2019_Newmar_Mountain Aire.pdf and it shows an approximate UVW:

As you'll see, once you get into DPs GVWR is NOT basically the weight loaded with water and camping gear.  In smaller stuff, that's about where you land (my 2021 Thor Magnitude SV34 was like that, it sat right at GVWR with just water and me in it).  If you look at my MA, it has over 11k lbs of ceiling from the Unloaded Vehicle Weight to GVWR.  So that gives you tons of room for tongue weight, water, gear, etc.  And it has a GCWR of 69k lbs, so a solid 15k over the GCWR so even if you had the thing loaded down to GVWR you still have the full 15k towing rating. 

I don't doubt your stacker is close to 15k lbs.  I was figuring at LEAST 12k for the stacker pictured above.  That was with my Potter in it, and a 2 seat XP Turbo, tools, spares, etc. but I had NOT filled the fuel tanks (156 gallons combined) or water tanks (100 gallons) on the stacker yet... so that would have booted it up to 14k+.  That was a "ramp" style stacker too, not hydraulic.  Probably under-axled 'n stuff too.. I'd guess about as light as a 20' stacker can be "safely."
