Padres Road to the World Series

Maybe the answer to constant pitcher injuries is to eliminate the "starting" pitcher. Take the entire pitching load of a season, and chop the innings up equally among the ENTIRE pitching staff. Tell everybody that they have to be ready to pitch 1-2 innings every other day.
That'd be super difficult with roster sizes and 162 total games. It's optimal to get into the 7th with your starter because the bullpen is full of different arms, and asking them to shoulder that kind of workload will result in injuries.

Last night was a case of season's over if we lose, so let's throw everything against the wall to see if it sticks. It worked.

I don't think it'll be easy to do twice with only 1 day of rest. Day 2 is peak soreness unless you're 20...

I do like reversing some roles, why not start a closer. He comes in with nobody on base and faces the top of the order, sets the tone for the entire game. Virtually every Starter's worse inning is the first inning, due to the fact they are figuring out the strike zone and with the opposing team's best players at bat.

Dodgers should start a high leverage bullpen guy, then bring in a starter in the 2nd inning??? Especially important against the Padres that want to get a great start and feed off the emotion.

Just some random thoughts from someone that thinks too much about baseball.

Possibly? Part of that is figuring out where the ump's gonna enforce the strike zone. Your closers have this knowledge ahead of time, but whoever starts gets to FAAFO.

Good points....Then maybe increase the roster sizes to allow for more pitchers. Have an A Staff, a B Staff and a C Staff. All prepared to pitch 1-2 innings every third game.
They can't keep just doing what they are doing, unless there is a way to mandate that pitchers NOT throw over 95mph.
Many of the great PITCHERS (not throwers) of the recent past (i.e. Kershaw, Baumgarner, Maddux, Lincecum, Scherzer, Smoltz) never threw high 90's. Coming up, if they had been forced to focus solely on velocity (which is what is now done), perhaps they would have gotten hurt and not lasted long enough to achieve greatness.

I know what you mean. My Dad died of cancer a little over a year ago. In his last months, all we could really do together was sit and watch Dodger games (he was a fanatic). Wanted him to see one more Dodger World Series, but he didn't make it. I think of baseball, and the Dodgers, way too much now. Feels like its the last connection I have with my Pops.

No one's forcing them to throw that hard though, and everyone knows the risk. I think the roster sizes are correct. All of the teams know they need to manage their players, and it's part of the marathon of an MLB season.

Randy Johnson's changeup was still in the 90s, and he pitched forever. :ROFLMAO:

Vegas already has the Doyers to win

Losing Musgrove really tilted things towards the Dodgers. Last night should have been his game, with Cease on full rest for Game 5 if they lost. Now, instead, they have Darvish on short rest, where historically he's not as sharp.

do or die tonight who wants it more.

Will be interesting to see how Yamamoto does in this kind of moment. I don't think the Dodgers have that much confidence in him. You wouldn't think that would be the case with the highest paid pitcher in baseball history.

Once again the Padres bats went on vacation in the crucial games. Can’t win with an entire lineup going O-fer. Oh well there’s always next year. This was a fun season for us Padres fans anyway

How' did that taste? Dodger bully is legit, Fuck the Mets. Let's go
