Padres Road to the World Series

Should be a great series. Crucial that the Dodgers win the first two games at home with Flaherty (unproven in post-season) and Yamamoto (unproven in post-season plus coming off a shoulder injury) pitching. After those starts, both of them can't/won't pitch with less than five days rest. Beyond that, its Buehler and Knack, either of them is fairly likely to put us in a five run hole within an inning or two. Would need to score 7-10 runs to win, and the Padres have the pitching to prevent that, regardless of how strong the Dodgers lineup is. Big Dodgers fan, but have seen this play out badly too many times.

Pitching and Defense win championships, Dodgers really are good at either (I am a Dodger fan). But that being said, the Padres don't score a lot of runs, so if the Dodgers score 5 runs, they probably will win the game. I agree, Dodgers need to win in LA for sure. 5 game series is all about Momentum, not always the best team.

The Padres have a real strong batting line up. Problem is when they have a big scoring inning they seem to fall off. Then everyone starts swinging for the fence. Just go back to basics and put the bat on the ball.

ATL Bullpen shut us down, we scored all of the series runs except 1 off starters. I agree, would like to see more runs off bullpen pitchers.

2022 Rematch! Go Padres !

Dodgers best hope, pitching wise, is to suddenly get back the Walker Buehler of old. Has had two TJ surgeries now, has shown occasional flashes of his old self since returning, but has struggled overall. If the Dodgers weren't completely out of alternatives, don't think he'd even be on the post-season roster. He's in a contract year, so lots riding on this for him.

What's your take on Yamamoto ? Is he the real deal ?
Yamamoto's pact with the Dodgers is 12 years and $325 million, the longest and most lucrative contract for a pitcher in major league history.Jan 8, 2024

How much money have the Dodgers spent in the offseason?
Dodgers spend over a billion on offseason prospects – Brophy ...

In the 2023-2024 offseason alone the Los Angeles Dodgers have spent roughly $1.4 billion on a select handful of players.

Injured list . . .

That sucks. No wonder I haven't heard of him. He's a local Dallas boy! Gotta root for him even if hears the Dodger Blue. Needs to become a Ranger to finish his career. Peace

My take is we are about to find out . . .
And they just scratched Flaherty from Saturday to have Yamamoto start. Flaherty starting Sundays game now, Roberts already second guessing himself or is Flaherty hurt ?

No Dodger fans want to see Kershaw pitch in October. That ship has sailed! Peace
This one does. He (unfairly much of the time) bore so much of the burden of the Dodgers failures over the years, it would have been awesome to see him have a role and make one last run. Ironic that, this year, his back and shoulder were as healthy as they've been in a long time. He was having some success, but of all things, his big toe ruined all of that. Father Time is undefeated......

this is what hurts the dodgers every year, and alot of the years the team with the first bye. couple years ago 3 of the 4 teams with the first round bye were knocked out. really think this should be a best of 7. padres coming off 2 game wins with momentum while the dodgers have not played in a week.

Don't think Flaherty is hurt. Its about who they would prefer pitch Game 5 should it be necessary. Guess the answer to that question is Yamamoto.

Yamamoto has electric stuff, there is not much doubt about that. I guess, in Japan, pitchers only make one start a week, and that was the workload he was accustomed to. Pitching here, on five days rest (instead of six) ended up putting him on the shelf for two months. He's not a big burly guy, hopefully he has more good years ahead of him rather than surgery recovery years. One thing he may have going for him is that his fastball sits 94-95 instead of 98+. He is an actual pitcher, not a brain dead heaver.

I don't think you can argue that the money invested in Ohtani wasn't well spent. Plus he deferred most of it, I am assuming to avoid sharing it with his silent partners the IRS and Franchise Tax Board. By the time the real money is rolling in from his contract, he will be retired and back home in Japan. And most likely, safe from the long arms of Uncle Sam and whatever whack job is Governor of CA by then. This gives the Dodgers awesome flexibilty to build around him.

Teoscar Hernandez was the most clutch free agent signing I think. He signed a "show me" one year contract, and he showed everyone. I doubt the Dodgers are able to (or even want to) re-sign him. He's not a plus fielder, and since they have Ohtani, having him DH in the future isn't feasible.

Believe me, SD fans want him to pitch also. He is built for a 60 game season these days, Definitely a HOF pitcher, but he has been washed for a while.

Should be a lot of good October baseball this weekend !
