New ride for the dune season - Kawi H2

Have you ever taken a pic with your phone looking down the belt to see where the belt rides on the primary could be an alignment issue between the primary and secondary
I have looked and the alignment appears to be decent. The belt looks to be centered on the primary bearing and not riding on one of sheave halves.
There is definitely something up with the clutches as I am not the only one killing belts in the dunes. I am going to have the dealer inspect the clutches and see if there is some defect that I can not see.

Even if not defective to the eye, it ls good to build a case as all this has to be reported back to Kawasaki. They need to know of every CVT & Belt issue as that’s what’s going to push and force a manufacturer fix.

This will be interesting. You know they will research this and address it big time. I'm now interested in this car because it looks like the only four seater you can buy with three seats in the back. Now I'm thinking I keep my krx1000 and buy one of these. Then my daughter, son-in-law and three grandsons and us can all go out and ride together with two cars. (In the mountains)

So it looks like the tapp primary is $2,800 and the secondary is $1800? Hopefully Kawasaki gets on this!!

Was told back in a Sept that the second color released for the H2 will be gray and released in Jan or Feb. Today I was told that Gray cars with charcoal gray & red graphics and with red suspension just went down the production line last week. So if this is the case we will see the new color in Feb or maybe March?

But more importantly Kawasaki has been replacing allot of cars due to clutch damage to the chassis, wiring and body damage. Even more are getting just new clutches due to failures but not damage to the cars. Problem is it’s the same defective clutch your getting. I have not been told, but I’d expect to hear of new clutches in the next few months at the latest. No way Kawasaki can let this go much longer. I’m actually surprised they have not released a formal recall.

I’d hope they would fix the complete clutch system, but with the secondary not exploding they might just fix the primary clutch. Problem with that is the secondary is just as much the problem with heat, blowing belts and possibly alinement issues. I hope they fix the whole problem and not just the part causing the liability issues.

Just like with Speed, how was this not found in testing & preproduction testing. Is it the clutch supplier cutting corners and making bad parts, or is it a complete design issues?

When one of these violently explodes it sure sounds like pieces could get to back passengers. Now you need a titanium firewall like a top fuel dragster. LOL. Think about buyers ready to pull the trigger on a side-by-side right now. I can't imagine someone wanting to buy one of these and would move on to a different brand. If there was ever a stop ride needed this sure seems like it.

Wonder if something changed in the manufacturing process from test mule to units being sold. You have to think they put thousands of test hours on these stupid things.

I absolutely disagree; they leave it up to the end user to find the weak points. This has been going on since the first Sxs in 2004. The engineers are only focused on testing their part of the machine they designed and quit once they are somewhat satisfied. Then the bean counters trim off pennies off each system and part to drive down cost and maximize profit. In the end they use us to find the weak pints and then revise as needed or just call it abuse and ignore it. They ALL suck at testing a unit before production.

Kawi has been very quick to replace the entire car for the people that had clutches explode. Latest guy had a new car within a few days and dealer was moving over his accessories to the new ride.

My guess is there was some bad casting by whoever manufactures the clutches. Also the plate that goes on the clutch allows for some flex in the tower on the clutch. Bad casting and flex is never a good combo. Kawi appears to be on top of the issue and wants to maintain their reputation for making reliable tough vehicles.

You can test and test and test, but they can never outsmart the average joe and what they are capable of breaking. Overall for a new machine I think Kawi got 99% of it right. If the clutch is the only real issue on a brand new platform that is doing pretty good considering the multiple issue other OEMs encounter when releasing a new platform.

I do not believe the Tapp primary is needed. The Tapp secondary maybe needed, if Kawi can not get the secondary to stay cool in the dunes. I do not believe the clutching is an issue for trail riding or any areas were you do not put a high load on the clutches like the dunes.

I have no regrets buying this car. I really enjoy driving this car. I know that @megadesertdiesel will be buying one once the clutches are sorted out.

You don’t have to be going very fast either. Here is snap shots from a video where a guy was pulling the car off his trailer and the clutch failed. He got out of the car to find this. You can’t be going much slower than backing off a trailer and having two wheels on & two off the trailer.

If the clutches are cracked it is a ticking time bomb.
