1964 Dodge A-100 Hot rod sort of rat rod build thread.

Man what a challenge these pieces were. The shop is wicked hot and I am miserable. Especially wearing a welding jacket all day. Now I'm on a time crunch and have to get this truck done so some stuff just is not that much fun. At least I got these all welded in and a coat of primer on so now I know all the areas that I have to work on. Chop cut grind mig tig stretch pull bend whatever it takes. I have worked 30 days straight without a day off and was hoping to take tomorrow off but that's not going to happen. I need to get some paint on this dash. I also have to weld plugs in all of the little holes along the bottom edge.

I have to clean out the shop. 4-6 months. Then we will sell the property and building. I have one guy going to stay on for a short time and help with a few things including finishing this truck. Hopefully get it running and he will run it on the dyno before I sell the dyno. Need to also finish the 62 Corvette and dyno it. We are starting over with the electrical and installing a new Holley system. I also need to have him dyno the Funco since I put different injectors in. So my timeline and everything that needs done is an understatement. There is a mountain of work to do. The harder I push on the truck on weekends the better chance we have of getting it completed. Just the way things are. Down the road I may have to choose between duning or playing with hot rods. May not be able to afford both. Tough decision I have been rolling through my head. Would like to retire sooner vs later but we will see.

Not sure I'm diggin it. I might paint the dash black instead. The original color was black. I've been going back and forth on the rest of the interior whether to paint it or not and I'm kind of leaning towards not wanting to take away any of the interior patina just like the outside. I do have to paint the bottom cutouts of the doors and was thinking maybe do those black as well.

Much better. I like the contrast between the black and the bronze. Also the flat hides all the imperfections. Could have spent a million hours to try make it look perfect but I think it'll look pretty cool with the gauges and the Dodge logo. I think I will paint the Dodge logo and the five pointed penstar both bronze just like the little rusty wagon on the valve covers. And the screen under The dimple die holes as well. Of course the motor will be black. Part of me wants to try sand through the three layers of paint on the dash and give it a weathered look. But I just don't know if I can do it to the level I would be happy with. Probably just leave it flat black.

Fwiw I like it WAY better this way.  The bronze was just too much.  The contrast with the black is bitchen.

I like the Rusty thing on a nice painted surface and did that on my buggy and the rust ruined the paint under it.  I'm not sure what I was thinking....  it looked great at first then looked horrible.

I like the black contrast way better great choice. This project is going to end up bitchen and all the hard work will be totally worth it.Thanks for sharing your project with us have been really enjoying the progress.

Two roll pins to help that lower v dog box not to try rotate on the four bolts. I put a Little Dabbie of red loctite on those bolts too. Now I have to figure out where to mount this air tank. Keep thinking about how to do the metal work on the rest of this cab. I think I'm going to put all of the switches and AC controls down in the center console area between the seats. Of course that area is very narrow since I move both seats inward about 4 in. That way the dash stays clean with no additional holes in it. Only issue I have is if I ever want to put a sound system in this truck. Where do I put the receiver. There will be a ton of wiring to run this whole truck and the majority of everything will be inside the cab.

First two pics before and after. Stock rotor versus 14s in the front. Wilwood sure does have a nice product including all of their hardware and shims to shim the calipers correctly. Found me an 11 in Spall fan that still runs smooth for my trans cooler. Almost time to start doing the sheet metal work inside. I think the tunnel coming in through the grill and air to the radiator will be a little wider on the passenger side. I think the brake pedal is going to work without modifying the pedal. We will see on that.

Dumb dumb dumb. Totally forgot I had that block of wood under the AC unit in the front and Jacked the back up. Bent the hell out of a plastic. Although that is just the drain area and it's all hidden. I don't think it damaged the unit inside. Crap crap crap.

This is what happens when you're ragged out from the heat and you have worked 36 days straight. And all the other stuff I'm trying to do right now. My brain is mush.

I went back to April and found these two pictures. I think I had the tire five or six inches off the ground and it was still hard to get the wheel out. Because once I drop the cradle down 5 inches there needs to be more room to let the tire rotate out. Also going to let a different portion of the cradle down. Instead of the entire unit and doberton bulkheads I'm going to disconnect the upper a arm the upper shock mount and the four bolts that bolt the regular Corvette cradle to his mounts. Won't save a ton of work but I'm realizing there are some of the side bolts I will never be able to get to. Especially in the back where the fuel tank is.
