1967 Dodge A-100 Hot rod sort of rat rod build thread.

My buddy that does the plasma cutting for me came up with a better idea for that penstar cover plate. It will be two pieces so the five points will lay on top of the five-sided piece. Might have to just silicone that down in place. Also going to remake and do a vector file of the 1959 Dodge Seneca logo that I like I cut out of quarter inch steel. File to fit rings got here yesterday so tomorrow we can continue moving forward on balancing and then building the motor. One of our best machine is that used to work for us has come back to put this together for me.. very appreciative of that. Still need to figure out where I want to set the ring in gaps.

Found a couple of these in stock. For sure something I want on the truck. A lot of younger people would not even know what this is.

I have been researching breaks for months and kept resisting spending 5K for big brakes. Ended up talking with Ken at kns brakes. He put together a whole package for me using cast iron rotors instead of two-piece rotors. Certainly more weight at 26 lb each for the front and 20 lb each for the rears but I think they will be just fine for what I'm doing. (Stock is front 19.5 and rears 14. So 6 lb heavier each rotor compared to stock.) Not only will it have all the braking that I will ever need but it will look good too in those bigger wheels. The whole package was right at 3K. Mo Betta. As of now I don't have any of the emergency brake stuff for the truck and it may not get one for a while. I don't even know where I would put the handle inside the cab anyway.

Just do a line lock parking brake. I think you can even do it with an electric button. You could even do all 4 wheels.

I was thinking the same as @Rorschach.  I just rented a toyota this week that had a push button parking brake.  I dont know how it works, but I could feel it on my foot when I set it, which makes me think its electric of some sort.  it sounded like a gate valve VS a piston valve, because you could hear it "wind up" as it was closing & the peddle was moving.  also you would not need to keep it energized when closed.  my mind was thinking of all kinds of hot rod uses..........  LOL.

 
I have been going back and forth on a parking brake. Not sure if I really want to burn off $600 a piece tires. I was leaning towards not putting it on.

The newer electric parking brakes actuators are kind of a combo between a what looks like a wheel cylinder and a window motor.  The wheel cylinder part is threaded between the two haves and the motor spins a rod winding the ends in or out.

thats what is feels like under the foot.  LOL.

 
Oh duh. I was thinking line lock and not parking brakes. Yes I have one of those kits on the 62 Corvette my dad and I built. It is super cool how it works. Each side has a screw drive that locks the brake pads and it sounds neat when it engages.

I could always just buy a C5 Corvette parking brake assembly. Mount the lever down low behind the seat so I just have to reach behind to set it.

 
Well 9 hours today and I got this much done. It is nasty hot and humid. And of course the copper plumbing broke in the back of the building so I have no water to the coolers either. Now I can sit here 15 minutes after throwing Sparks before I leave and make sure the shop doesn't burn down.

First time I have ever used our plasma cutter. Of course I was a big chicken and didn't go right out to the edge because I didn't feel like I could hold steady enough. Used the grinder and a carbide bit to finish it. Of course you'll never see it but I still wanted it nice. This brake pedal bracket will be a fun project to figure out. I think I got it. That dash is 14 gauge steel so it is super heavy duty. Hopefully that will slow it down from warping when I weld it. Carefully. Of course that dash is bent up just as bad as the rest of the truck so it won't have to be perfect.

The truck is coming along great, But I hope you keep to keep some of these tools, and have your own smaller shop with an A/C unit in the future.
