1964 Dodge A-100 Hot rod sort of rat rod build thread.

I had been thinking about the Autometer Hoonigan gauge line. https://www.summitracing.com/search?SortBy=BestKeywordMatch&SortOrder=Ascending&keyword=hoonigan gauges But then the guys in the shop were telling me about the Holley EFI  gauges that hook up to the computer. Super easy plug and play. 100 times easier without all the wiring.  Speedo works with GPS so not need to use the Corvette speed sensor like I had planned. But $1000 more for all the gauges compared to the Auto Meter.  Hmmm. 



 
Of course I am always dreaming.  Hoping to be driving this truck in 7-8 months and have been thinking about my next project. My wife has always liked the 55-57 T-Birds. They drive terrible and would like to build one on a Morrison Chassis. Then the other day at Good Guys my wife said she really likes the Metropolitan Nash. I would build one with a custom frame and old school small block Chevy. Maybe even a 327. I have a ton of parts laying around. 4l60e 4 speed and a 9" rear. Mustang two front rack and pinion. 4 wheel discs. Keep it mild at around 400 HP. Let her choose all the colors and be her car. Of course Holley FI. 83 inch WB which is 7" shorter than my truck.  :igor:



 
Other than the big wing thing on the back. Don't think my wife would go for that. lol. 

 
With where i am in life right now...  i would spend the money and go with those canbus gauges.  EASY call for me.  Even if it meant pushing the project back a month for money's sake. 

And T-bird over Nash any day.

Ya, Tough decision. Easy peasy or.  But I still like the Hoonigan gauges better. It is what I wanted in the beginning. And I need to wire the truck from scratch anyway. I have time to think about it. 

 
Operation bed trim phases 2 of 3 complete. I had cut out a little section thinking the radiator hose would come out further so I had to remake a block of wood and plywood to fit in that spot. Came out pretty good.

I got that intercooler and the intercooler fans quite a ways away from that header but there is still going to be a ton of heat there. I think I need to build a heat shield of some sort

Well I got halfway done with the back section of the wood trim and then got bored. Started on the intercooler heat shield. Had a piece of double wall heat shield material left over from one of the ATS exhaust kits. So this dimple die piece Will face the header. And then another 18 gauge piece on the back side with some bead roll. It will all get sandwiched together with nuts and bolts. Wanted to add a little zip to it.

Not to sure about the wood and frames .  Just thinking if you did a custom formed sheet metal piece with a distressed finish with some bead rolls would be more suited to the look  ?.

Pics don't do justice to how cool the old wood is. I love it and it is what I dreamed in my head. Originally I was going to do some crazy bead rolled panels throughout the bed. But decided I wanted all of the rusty patina inside the bed to show.

 
The other cool thing was my dad had saved some old distressed wood in the corner of the house up north. Pretty cool I could use part of that on this project.

This weekend I was working on pressure testing the intercooler, cold side tubes, and the fuel tank. I had to weld up and make some custom fixturing to plug everything up and be able to pressure test. We had some pin holes that had to be welded up. So now I can work at getting everything sanded and painted flat black. Today I have a project building some fixturing on a customer engine in a 59 El camino. Need to make a jig to be able to drill some holes in the front side of some cylinder heads. Also on this backup light tail light bucket I want to use the rusty one and think I figured out how to get a newer socket in there.

I have two of these on order from summit. Pretty sure this is what Dodge installed into the bucket. Just have to bend the tabs over to install hopefully. And I have that last little bit of metal trim around that exposed tail light bucket to finish. Then I can start looking at throwing some mud on the rear wheel wells and then start prepping to paint a whole bunch of parts.

All my screws from overseas came in. Didn't surprise me they were from china. 210 screws and I will still be short a few. I really wanted the black to pop against the bronze. Also got my gas cap back from powder coat end of week. Had it powder coated all in one piece. Spent over an hour with a razor blade hand scraping the powder coat at all the pivot points so it would close. I like it.

It was fun pressure testing the blow off valve tube. At 15 to 20 psi it was pushing the blow off valve open because there's no boost pressure on the back side.

Now I have it looking the way I wanted it in my head. Super industrial. 150 screws alone in this back section. - 8 in the bulkhead fittings pressure and return. And then - 6 will go to a rollover valve.
