1962 Corvette Resto Mod build

Stock seat and deck lid look like this. You have to open the deck lid to tilt the seat forward.

Doing the hard way but the right way. That seat mount is 5/16 plate steel getting sliced and diced. This way it distributes the load evenly. Only spotted together on the first one. This will be a project. We had built the seat brackets to lower the seats from the stock position. Now with the seat reclined in the back position the gap from bottom of the decklid to the top of the seat is pretty wide. Doesn't look that good. But there is one notch to click it forward and make the gap tighter. Might tear the frames apart and see if I can add another detent position to come forward a little more. Although I like being able to recline a little bit. Now thinking we are going to have the upholstery guy remove some foam at the top of each seat. Also thinking about pulling the electric steering shaft apart and shortening to move the steering wheel forward. Looks like we can get 1.5".

Tore apart a perfectly good freshly upholstered seat that we paid a crap ton of money for.

I think the adjuster was off for the cable and not letting it go all the way back. So now I don't need to tip the seats. This is in the forward detent and then further back after moving all of the modules and computers. Top of the seat still has way to much foam so they still need addressed by the upholstery guy.

I had to reverse my slice and dice on one bracket. Just enough weld that after hitting it with the sander you can barely tell it was ever cut. Glad I didn't do all 4. Welded both sides.

Got about half the wiring done today for the emergency brake controller. Same way I did the buggy when I built it in 2005. (110 hours in the Funco the first time I built it). After putting the wires together hand wrap with another piece of wire. The solder and shrink wrap. I always feel for burrs and wire sticking up and crimp around the joint with some pliers. Trying to figure out how to clean up all the wiring around the computers and modules. Thinking I might find some nice cloth tape and hand wrap all of it. So many different sizes I think loom would be harder to make look good.

Simple thin little bracket for the emergency brake control switch. Figure we won't use it much so it is hidden in the center console glovebox. And there is plenty of crap under the dash. Mounted to the side so the tumbler clears.  Still have to figure out the AC vents.

Picture of the old race car from 1969. Had never seen this pic until a couple of weeks ago. Can just see my mom. That carry all got painted yellow and I had not seen any pics before the paint. Pretty cool. I always wanted to build a replica of that race car with my dad. Never happened so this is our race car project.

Was thinking how it would be to just have the two vents only in the center. This car has it that way. The right side is pretty easy to incorporate a vent with the package tray under the grab bar. Left drivers side is the tough one to make fit and work. Knees already almost hit under the dash.

Electric emergency brake is super cool! Screw drive motor on each rear wheel locks down tight.



 
These are the outside vents on one of the other cars. Might end up doing something like this but would like something a little cooler. At least maybe mount them up a little higher.  Talked to our upholsterer Nick yesterday and going to try get him the car in 30-60 days. Finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am ready to get this thing done. Ordered some Painless brand cloth harness tape today. Going to wrap all of those wires going to the modules and computers under the deck lid. Try clean it all up nice. Two big extra pieces of leather have been rolled up in a box for quite some time. Need to get them laid out to try get some wrinkles out. Called our buddy at Tucker Tire today. He is going to try help us find a spare with 4 3/4 pattern, thin enough to fit, and also clear the disc brakes. Not sure if we can find something.

Package tray pre assembled and Vintage Air pods in place. Not sure if we want to go this route. 6 vents is a lot.  Might need to custom build pods for the left and right sides. Hmmm. I might take that right double pod, cut it and lay some fiberglass for a single. Left side would be a full custom build from fiberglass.

Classic airs pods look like this. I just think trying to put a single pod down in that right corner is going to look ugly. Even if it is a little higher up than the red car shows. Ugg. Not sure what to do.

What if I started with the double vintage AC air pod for two round vents. Fiberglass and reshape it to be straight across. This narrows it up as well. Then shown in green install a single rectangular vent like the classic air setup. Then purchase classic airs under column mount for the single rectangular vent. This way all 4 vents would be the rectangular shape.  Actually probably purchase two more Vintage rectangular vents like we have in the center console. Make those fit and then all 4 vents look the same.

I think I like the Vintage pod vs the classic pod. Probably fiberglass this one up to accept the rectangular vent. Done right I think it would look good. Use some thin model airplane plywood as a backer when fiberglassing.

1962 Vette that Chip Foose is building. So bad ass. I would guess this is a seven figure build. Can only imagine the man hours in this car.

Reminds me I have some door gaps to set. That will be a project. Still burnt and don't want to work on it. Maybe soon.
They added part 5 in October. So sick. His drawings are amazing. What an artist. 



 
Phase 1 of operation AC pod fabrication. Used a piece of single ply wood on the left and made a couple of blocks for the right side. Used JB Weld/epoxy to glue them in. Now I can throw on some fiberglass and mat. I am going to have him cover these both in leather when done. On the right side the back of the vent is close to the evaporator so I will have to fabricate a special box to 90 degree the duct. The round 2.5" duct is not even close to fitting. That job will be tricky.
