1962 Corvette Resto Mod build

We bought a new horn from SoCal but it does not sound very good. Rehabbed a Jeep horn and to be installed. The Jeep has two horns. Low and high. We are only installing the high.  On the hunt for some brown seat belts that look nice. Looked at everything SoCal had and nothing looked good. Looking around online not finding anything I like so far.

Should you ever want to step things up to 11...

I have this setup on my Jeep.  It's awesome for me. Not so awesome for dumbasses.

Machined up some big diameter 1/8 thick steel washers for the seat studs. These still need cleaned up more then painted.

Very happy with how the throttle pedal came out for the fly by wire. Carpet will go over the bracket. Left right at 1/2" clearance for the thickness of the carpet and pad under the pedal.  Now I have to figure out the brake pedal. Still has the stock pedal and the rubber goes on top of what you see. At the very least I will need to remove the master cylinder to adjust it down lower. PITA no matter which route we go. Did gain some leg clearance with the throttle which will be nice with the brake as well.

Some progress and more whittling for the firewall ac lines trim plate.

Shifter boot plate ready for the upholsterer. Had some extras made while at it. Also water pump blanks to machine when needed. Water pump and pulley setups are custom on these hot rods.

Doors hopefully installed for the last time. Gaps are close enough for now to get them closed. We need to drive the car and then do the final adjustments. Hours already and hours more to get that all set perfect. Crazy how nice the parts all fit compared to a stock one.

Ordered a wrapped steering wheel from Al Knoch quite a while ago. Looks like shortages are hitting us on this item. They ordered 15 wheels in May and still don't have it. We ordered a third leather hide as well. Told them today to cut off what they need for the steering wheel and send us that hide. Couple days ago the upholsterer said he is hoping to have the carpet next week. That was ordered 3 months ago. I believe from China.  Also waiting on the material for the convertible top. That material will stay with the theme and be brown as well. This color combo has really grown on me. If you go to Good Guys and look out at 3000 hot rods you don't see many yellow cars. And hardly any black painted parts on this car.

Figured out how to get a perfect installation on the trunk rubber molding. Ran tape .300 from the radius on each side. Sand with 400 grit paper. Sand the back of the rubber with 80 grit. Wipe with lacquer thinner. Go slowly and do about 8-10 inches at a time and let it tack up. pull rubber back on each side to carefully remove the tape as you go. Perfection and no glue showing. Still need to do the deck lid and hood the same way.

Factory wire guard that goes into the hole when you shut the door.

Put the trunk lid on today. Really exciting. Strange to see somewhat of a car after working on this thing in pieces for so long. The new rubber pushes the the lid up enough if you try suck it down flat it actually flexes the corners. So we have it just pushing into the rubber and we'll give it some time and go one click at a time. This thing is filthy with our grubby fingerprints everywhere. It will take 2 days to clean it.

Well I'm glad we did two stage paint. So damn mad at myself. I was definitely swearing and Chucked a Phillips screwdriver to where I still don't know where it is. :damn:

We were finally supposed to go put some miles on it today outside just the neighborhood. Go figure it rains all day in Phoenix. Maybe tomorrow morning. Car needs to be put on the dyno to set up the transmission. Hopefully it shifts good enough for now to drive it. Painter happened to be in and said no problem to fix the little ouchie. Another one at the edge of the trunk lid was pointed out to me today. I swear I didn't do it!! So they will have two small repairs. It's only money right? Still need to be easy on the motor since it has to come back apart to have the vvt cam limiter block installed.  Don't want to beat on it and bend a valve.

We left the factory plastic caps off. Just used adell clamps for the wires. This will all be hidden under the upholstery.  You can see on each side the factory tube coming down for the drain in the channel for the trunk lid. Still need to find some thin wall hose to install.

Old school cool vintage radio antenna. For those who remember. We made the simple bracket for the bottom and then added the adell clamp. I little scary since if bumped or hit it can easily hurt the fiberglass.

The best grill we have is pretty nice but not perfect. A new grill is stupid expensive. Thinking powdercoating could damage it from the heat. These things are fragile. We are going to primer and spray it with Misty root beer.

We had bought a nice vintage mag wheel for the spare but it is way to wide. Have a factory C1 Corvette wheel and just need to find a narrower tire than this to fit. We have not talked about a jack yet. Might have to get creative.

I am still up in the air on what color to paint this bezel. Thinking misty root beer might be a nice contrast vs yellow. Any opinions on this? Still need to sand and polish smooth before paint.
