Turning 50 this year. I've always had monovision. Nearsighted in my left eye (20/50 at distance) and farsighted in my right (20/20 at distance). I was afraid that I couldn't keep cheating the eye test for my DOT physical every 2 years so I got lasik on my left eye about 5 years ago to improve my distance. They did tell me that I'd lose some of the nearsightedness in that eye. I should have considered how important that was but I was more focused on the distance improvement. For a long time after the lasik I could not see shit up close and felt like I was drunk all the time. My balance was off and I had a really hard time focusing on any one thing. Since the lasik my eyes have essentially traded places which has helped me get back to what I perceive as normal but now my left eye only has adequate distance vision with no nearsightedness and my right is ok up close but I can't see Jack or shit at a distance. Like, I can barely see the "E" at the top of the chart! Now I really have to cheat. I'm doing the Vulcan salute when I cover my left eye to read the chart with my right. I was way better off before the lasik and I don't recommend it to anybody. This RLE however does look like a good option and maybe the multi-focal is the way to go.
@Dockmaster, do you now have excellent vision near and far? How much $$? Does the multi-focal give you both near and far and how much extra $$ was it on top of the regular procedure?
