WTF, how does this happen?

Don't know how that happens. We ride close to each other. Watch the way the quad / car reacts in front of you. Impossible that can happen to people who know the dunes. Peace

Brain fade. I was third in a line of cars. Leader went in a hole, second swerved to the right, around it. By the time I arrived I as third car, thought all's good, pulled up on the right and stopped, then bam, forth car rear ended me. Fun part was later in the day on another run. Evidently, I reacted to the hit by griping the steering wheel tightly. Out on a really fast run and the u-joint in the steering shaft pulled off the rack. Figured when hit it had slipped part way off then finished later in the day. Good time! Yes, now all joints are thur bolted instead of pinch bolts.

They call that a SXS Gang Bang

When someone leads i still do my own line, for they SXS person why run a whip it really has no meaning to them, I run a 8-foot whip during the day then swap it out to a lighted whip at night,  Might seem like a lot of work, but so is pealing away a car off the side of you, I still a feel a 8-foot whip should be mandatory

I’ve said it in other comments no brains and going to fast for the conditions.

If you can’t react to people standing and avoid them your going to fast. Seen a few groups in sxs where they are literally 30 ft apart going over a dune or a jump.

Like my buddy Big Julio (RIP, the guy who got me into Baja racing) used to say, "Don't take anything to the races that you can't afford to lose".

This one seems like it should have been mostly avoidable, but you never know what is going to happen.

5 cars that took some effort. When I first saw the picture all I could think of was the scene in Smokey and the Bandit, right after Bandit jumps over the broken bridge.

The biggest mistake these guys made was posting pictures of it.

Damage to the cars appears minor, no one got hurt. Seems like a teaching moment is all.

Blind crest on a transition.  I can see how the first 2-3 cars can pile up like that, especially with the short whips everyone runs.  We've all gone through similar spots before where you're pretty sure there's ground on the other side, but damned if you can actually see it.  The last 2 in the wreck don't have much of an excuse though.

@Spize909 led us into a similarly blind spot with a very experienced group.  Wasn't a 5 car pile up, but but I was first to follow and lost the bead on a tire, the guy behind me stopped in time, but the guy behind him didn't.  You couldn't possibly see any of us (even with 8' whips) until after you crested.  Sh!t happens, the dunes bite.

Also, if there were 2 people at the bottom of that dune, shame on them for not having someone with a whip uphill of that.
