Which car would you choose?

Thanks for mentioning your experience with the 2D. A third vote for SCU. So far it sounds like the answer is to keep saving my money for a SCU.
Like I told you earlier a gen 3 funco with a Subaru is one of the best pure dune cars ever built. If you're bumping your budget one of those might fall in your lap.

There is nothing wrong with a 2D especially in a lighter car that has less than 550Hp.

If you plan on using a buggy to do an occasional hard pack (dirt run) the S&S is the better bet.

Whichever way you go you’ll be in a lower tier market for resale with price more than make of the car motivating someone to buy it from you. Of course having “Funco” in a sales ad definitely doesn’t hurt.

My choice would be the S&S but remember to be nice to the front end (single shock setup) when rolling 4 deep (4 passengers).

I wouldn't choose either. The newer Funcos look badass, but that vintage car you're looking at has a look only a mother could love, and the SnS? Ehh. The economy is just going to get worse for a while. Theres going to be some better options out there for the money this summer. What is your budget anyway?

That funco looks fun and the upgrades are really nice.  The cage is tough to look at but that can be changed.  I'm a big fan of S&S as well as Kyle builds a freakin' incredible car (my first car was a S&S prerunner).  Some of his stuff is right up there with the newest tatums, funco, etc.  The S&S is a fun, plush all around car (for that price point), hills, whoops, etc.  That funco (even with upgraded suspension) is gonna be rough through whoops, etc - but if you are a fast duner, the funco is a better choice.

Man you have a lot of opinions here and you know what they say right? They’re like a-holes. Everyone’s got ‘em and they all stink. Want mine? I wouldn’t go for either. Save your money. Season is almost over and you might score on something better for less. You don’t want to buy a Gen 2 and put a bunch of money into it, what’s the point if you don’t already have the budget

It also comes down to a few different factors. Were the cars taken care of? Frame cracks? Engine, trans in good shape? seats, lights.. paint even…

When it comes to older cars you can’t just base your decision by the brand.

Maybe find out what you want. Then when you decide, search and search and search till you find exactly what you want. Don’t just pull the trigger on whatever is there.

But if you’re set on one of the two, my vote is the green S&S .

but hey, I know my opinion stinks too..

Side point: A 2D is a great transmission, especially for the power plan that is in both of those cars. 2Ds treated right will last a long time.

I know the owner of that green S&S car. Dunes awesome and has been well maintained. The price he is asking for the car, makes it a no brainer.

Be patient, season is just about over, deals will be available very soon. Market will keep on softening and that's to your benefit.

Beyond whether the cars check out  - safety and wear wise

We all have opinions  and most are right "for us"

Its All about expectations and driving style

Apples and oranges there with those cars

Check them out throughly, Drive both then decide...... is the best advice IMO

FWIW

Sorry, I thought we were talking about Gen 4 like your, which is out of my current budget. Thanks for the clarification.

The 2D is one of my requirements. I am pretty sure all of the S4S cars will be out of my price range. What ever I buy will be used on dirt/hard pack the rest of the year. Most of the time I will be solo or just one passenger. Thanks for the warning about 4 passengers in a single shock car, I was not aware of that.

I am seeing that. Prices are falling on lots of the cars for sale. They are not selling like hot cakes anymore. Current budget is low 20K, but that could be higher by summer or next year. The idea was to have a sandcar that rides  better / dunes a lot better than a side by side for less than the cost of a side by side. Correct me if I am wrong but I think I am a position where I should increase my budget so I can buy something that I will keep longer and not wish that I bought 'the next level better' car.

Most important question, what do YOU like and want. It will be your car, no one else's so make sure your happy.
I don't know what I like or want. It is hard to judge just based on looks alone. My experience is I owned a corvair powered home built 2 seat rail 25+ years ago for a short time. I have ridden in a 100K 2 seat sandcar and was very impressed, but that's out of my league. I have drove a 2 seat X3 in the dunes and it was ok power and suspension wise but I would like something more back and body friendly that has better suspension so I can dune longer and not get so beat up from beat up dunes. What ever I buy I intend to keep for a long time. Thank you for the advise.

Not knowing your budget but this. Well built still around, parts available, Bitchin cars
Quality and parts availability is a concern and consideration. I can fabricate some things but it would be nice to just order the correct replacement parts. Appreciate your post.

No prob, I currently own an scu big bro (my dream car since I was a younger lad lol) it’s build extremely well and Justin (the new owner of scu) is super cool and can get you what ever you need.

also I previously owned a amplified and it was an extremely well built affordable car. I still vote scu but, it will be yours so make sure you get what pleases you. I’ve been going to the dunes for a long time and this is just my .02

Good luck amigo
