What’s it worth?? 1986 250r

Wide variety of pricing for sure… I know it’s a niche bike that could take forever to sell if you’re looking for top dollar. I offered him $3k MAX… he’s a very close friend but still wants a fair price. He hasn’t agreed yet. There was one that popped up the other day in as good or better condition. Original owner , very little use for $2500. Ad was down within 30 minutes of posting.
I saw that post. Saturday in Corona?  Was similar to this bike, hadn't been started in years....  I think $3k MAX is a solid offer, just depends on how much trouble your friend wants to go through for a few hundred bucks.  I personally can't stand tire kickers so I tend to sell stuff cheaper so it sells faster so I don't have to deal with them.

For comparison sake, I had a super clean 86. Built fresh from the ground up, with a 310 engine. Everything powder coated, extended arms, elka triple rate shocks, the list goes on. 9k investment, and many hrs of labor. Ended up selling it for 3500. The engine alone cost me nearly that. Oh and it had 5 hrs on it.. took a beating, and probably should have just kept it.

OUCH!!!!

Thanks for all the comments and help…. Finally got around to figuring out a deal. Hasn’t run since 2007 so it’s going to be some work getting it ready. Brand new top and bottom end with 10 minutes on it. He also had a separate complete top end Kit that is ported/polished and runs a Yamaha piston that’s shorter than stock but larger bore…. Do any of you 250r gurus know what that is? Anyways….. decided on $3000 which was a bit more than I wanted but the sentimental value of it meant a little bit. I used to chase this quad all over glamis when I was a kid so it was cool to buy it from him. Thanks again for the help! image.jpg

Still a good buy. Congrats!

Believe it is a piston from a YZ250. Trx250r.net has some good info. Warning: it can be a little "clicky". If you even mention BDT, prepare for the onslaught.

BDT? Maybe I’m getting old…. Need translation 🤣

so the bike is gone, so posting another one here for sale is OK?  the one i have is all red, i think 88

I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t taken her out yet…. Started up in a few kicks after getting it all set up and cleaned out. I’ve taken it around the block a couple times and it ran decent. It was jetted SUPER rich so I’m working on leaning it out. It starts and idles great but bogs pretty good down low and through the middle so I’ve leaned the pilot out quite a bit and am trying to get it smooth throughout the range. I will be taking her out day after Christmas out to Johnson Valley to test everything.
