Bought in 88 from the original owner. Very little use over its lifetime. Complete rebuild top and bottom about 10 years ago and ran for 10 minutes and then put in shed and hasn’t seen daylight since…

Not sure the money worth.

Definitely worth your time to pull the spark plug and drip some mixing oil down there. Or spray fog it. Return piston to tdc. I would tip it over sideways and hope oil reaches the higher up seals and bearings before atttempting a start. Maybe pull the carb and hope the bottom of the float bowl aint lime green. I had an 87 dont remember there being a float drain. I think bansh taught me the 88 had a shorter swingarm and turned better than other years.

It’s actually a buddy of mine that’s been out of the game for a long time and is looking to sell it. It definitely needs some love before turning it over. I’m actually considering buying it for nostalgia sake. Trying to figure out how I can justify it 🤣

Justify it as an investment.  Sport quads, especially 2-stroke versions are not being made.  There will always be a need a clean, factory start to a build.  It is true that 88-89 are more desirable but 86-87 (this is a 86) is a great bike.  I have also have one in storage, albeit a basket case but it waiting its turn for a full build.

If your buddy is interested in selling, let me know. I might be interested. I don't need one, but I need one.

I have an FMF pipe for it

I have that exact same little blue Yamaha generator too

Put it on the open crazy market... he'll get 7500 for it... there are crazy people out there....

That doesn’t help my case of wanting to buy it 🤣. I think things are coming back down slowly but prices are still crazy. I’ve bought and sold a lot of bikes these past 2 years and made money in every single one.

No, he wont get that or even close to it.    A Coworker just tested that theory and got $3600, It was almost as clean.

get it running, 5-6k in running condition.

these bikes are going for stupid prices, banshees are bringing Challenged money.

it will never get any cheaper. oem plastics wrapped if/when found are bringing 5k plus for plastic sets.

what's he asking, pm me if you want, but they won't get any cheaper, there's guys buying them up like crazy and prob brings more in parts than whole.

I think the market has slacked off more than people are thinking. Its not worth any real $$ till its running and tags are up to date. Fixed alot of 250r’s that blew up first ride after a 10 year storage. You can get top dollar money if you can assure top dollar condition. People dont pay 6-7k$ for an r that hasnt seen a wrench in 10 years. As it sits, 3k$ is more realistic but even optimistic in my mind

I got cash...... :lmao:

I would say around $3K.    In today's crazy used market you might be able to get $4K.   Those bikes sell pretty quickly.

$2500 as is, its a gem....but folks want mint and running for top $$ these days.

I'd tell your buddy to get it dialed in / fresh then list it if he's after top $$.

Get it running / Shine it up....detail it to a mirror shine and list it for $6250 ........... I think the right buyer will pay that if they want an OEM bike..........Its worth the day of cleaning and getting it running to get the $$$.....That bike is beautiful and there are some Honda nuts out there that will pay for what you have there.......

I myself would offer to trade you for a nice :atc70:  1985 running and clean and ready to go for it

:poule:

i have a local cali buyer i'm sure if he's selling and your not buying
