What Do Folks Do For Road Transportation While at Glamis?

GLAMIS WEATHER
Bought a Harley for Idaho lol maybe that was an excuse.just show up we will deal with that when the time comes. New idea make mini stacker out of your intech bring the wife’s car
Hard to carry much in way of groceries or items with a Harley. My vote is it was an excuse, albeit a good one! 😀 I actually thought about a couple of those freeway legal scooters but again, can’t carry much. The wife’s C8 would be good in a stacker given low profile. But a PITA to load it due to ground clearance. Maybe I should bring it anyway and get some paddles for it to see how it does in the sand ? 🤪🤪

I don't have this problem (never say never) but it makes me think, if we had a Motorhome and went alone (will happen eventually as we get older) what do you do when you need stuff from town?

Has anyone tried to use mobile delivery services like DoorDash, Uber Eats, Instacart, Postmates, and Grubhub for food? What about Walmart Spark for household items?
I think if you go to the Gecko Ranger Station or Glamis Beach Store dependent on where you are camped, used their address and a GPS PIN, it could work out. Has anyone you know done that?

I could sit at the GBS Parking lot drinking my Keystone Light (taker from @BaBaBouy ), waiting for my 32-count box of ice cream drumsticks from Walmart.

Just saying... fir sure be ahead in $$ from buying it there onsite.

Thoughts, input?

I would say that the wife needs to drive a separate vehicle for that long of stay. I know it's a long ways but that's what we do if we are staying for a week or longer. But we live in San Diego so a little easier :).

Like someone mentioned, other option is a rental car from El Centro but need to find a way to get there and back, not sure Uber does Glamis.

I've had things delivered to The Beach Store, Gilmore's and Daddy's and Pierre at Full throttle. You want to talk to them ahead of time and clear it with them first, it's kinda weird having things delivered to someone else without their knowledge.

A separate vehicle in camp for longer stays is a must. A bike could get you back and forth to Monday night steak night but I make weekly trips to Yuma for ~100 gallons of fuel and resupply, a motorcycle ain't cutting it.

Uber/Lyft aren't completely a no-go but I wouldn't count on it being available and you can expect a hefty price tag with that trip. You are at the mercy of some local spending his day driving through the desert on your behalf and good luck with the return trip.

Instacart, Postmates, etc would be the same... waiting for someone in Brawley/El Centro willing to drive to the dunes and find your actual location to drop food... it's not impossible that someone takes that delivery but highly unlikely and I'd pre-order days in advance of actually needing it. Beach Store or Ranger Station pickup would increase yours odds.

Honestly, if nobody in camp has a spare rig to make runs to town your best bet is to post up here "in need of resupply ride to (x), will supply fuel and ICDBs" and a good chance you'll get hooked up, especially if you are flexible and planning mid-week 🤘 🍻

After our 10 days stay in Mother G, We had to stay an additional week due to the freeze in TX. We dressed as the homeless with cardboard signs and went to everyone in camp leaving. What do Y'ALL have leftover?
@RIDERED @FOG @Stugots @Poule43 and a bunch more gave us all their leftovers. We had more than we brought originally. When you Dune alone without backup, it changes how and where you Dune. Felt sorry for everyone back home in -20* degrees and no power while we were in 75* degrees and shorts. We did have a savior in Donald who drove in from SD and took me to Brawley for some Diesel fuel for the Moho. Generator power is a must at times. Donnie did enjoy a few Dune runs. Peace
