Upgrading Honda 250 ex’s.

Raptor 350 is the new model warrior. Manual clutch
Raptor 250 is a also manual clutch. Has a throttle limiter.

Honda 250 won't have much for aftermarket support. Plus they are not sporty. My kids hopped up lt80s could out run a Honda 250.

I’m not seeing a hopped up 80 running with a 250?

Twins ride Raptor 250s. Moved up to them from lt80s 3 years ago. They are 14 now and moving up to Suzuki 400s this year.
The Raptors are fun. Sporty little machines. No reverse. But super light and easy to move around. More of a motocross type bike than the Honda 250s. Tons of aftermarket parts.
Honda 400 reliability is great. But I like the Suzuki 400 better for handling and ride quality. View attachment 126612View attachment 126613

So you are selling the raptors then?

I guess Dave if you want a project to do with these thats pretty bolt on at least suspension wise i think i recall a company called diamondcustoms or diamondJcustoms that makes front widening brackets and shock mounts to use i think 450r yfz450 front shocks. Although i think some info back in the day was some slight bump steer on some of these set ups.
I think also a 450r rear shock fits as well but your still stuck with the auto clutch and power adders being a basic pipe and some jetting.

How about getting him a Yamaha Blaster. Great quad that really wakes up with a pipe / jetting once he's used to the clutch.

Here’s me.. “my kid is 11 and weighs 100 lbs”. Gd.com. Buy him this! He will grow into it

Literally everyone here. Also everyone here... has upgraded their kid to a ~300/350/400/450 when they got bored with the 250 and could reach the pedals and steer at the same time. 🤘

Also, back "in your day" that Blaster was a 2-stroke. If it ran good it'd be on par with the 400s of today and probably beat them in a hill shoot, stock vs stock.

I've never seen a "built" Honda 250, their value is stock reliability and auto clutch. A lot of good options in this thread and not one is adding parts to the 250 :ROFLMAO:

Sand - 2 stroke
Desert - 4 stroke (2 stroke still more fun)

11 yrs old
100#s
Wants to upgrade
Do it himself

Yamaha Blaster
Easy to work on
Upgrades for days (cheap to $$$)

Need reverse - get off and push
No electric start (I ride my daughters all the time for fun 6’7” 240lbs.) he can kick.

Safe enough and will last a while as riding style improves. Holds value.

Easy peasy. Mine would have also.

There were a Lot of performance parts available for that little 2 smoke back in the day. 💪👍🏼
Yeah man. My sons had a stage 2 Jack Moore setup. It would go all over Glamis.
Built a Jack Moore National motor for my daughters. Almost doubled the HP and brought the rpms from a 9k redline to 14k redline. Bored, ported Intake and exhaust, milled head, reads, ported carb, some clutch mods and sprockets. It also had extended arms and fox shocks. Little screamer. Think hopped up rm80, cr80.
They wouldn't outrun a raptor 250. But would outrun a Honda 250 auto clutch all day.

The Blaster would be the next step, I don't think they still call them Blasters though. They are an 210cc oil injected 2-stroke with manual clutch. The important thing is the overall weight of the machine is much lighter than the larger 4-strokes that are way too much machine everyone is saying to get him into. Even if the Blaster is not enough machine until his body weight gets up there a little more keep him on the smaller quad. Body size makes a huge difference in riding quads and if you don't have enough, well that can be bad. If you want I will post the link of Kelsey Foley, trust me nobody wants to watch that again, one of the best young quad riders I ever saw get hammered into the sand because she did not have enough ass.

This sounds like the best option so far.. I'll talk to him tonight and see what he wants to do.

edit.. Just went on Yamaha's website it looks like they make 3 variations of the 700, then a 450, then a 110 and then a 50.. so they might not be in that midsize market anymore.

I don't think any of the brand name manufacturers cover the midsized sport market anymore.
Blasters are fun. Super easy to tinker on.

TCS used to make shocks for em too. I had em on mine when I sold it.

Used to be tons of aftermarket parts available back in the day. 👍🏼

2 strokes are forbidden in CA..... I still think the 400 suzuki's are the best bang, you can do as much or as little as you want to them and they just keep going. I think every time we had a blaster on a ride, we ended up towing it back....with a Suzuki.

DOH!

Shit I had my Blaster for maybe 20 years? That thing Never skipped a beat! Sold it to my nephew, who still has it I believe. The trans finally went out on it ages ago. Not sure what he did with it?

I went all over Kennedy Meadows, G and the SoCal upper deserts with it. Maybe someone needed a better mechanic? 2 strokes done right, are about as dependable as it gets.

Although...

I do have a Suzuki 400 and 450 quads at this time. (y)
