Racer Front Engine Sand Car - Why?

Very nice. Thanks for info. Given the front engine, what’s behind those panels in the rear? I’m surprised the azz end still looks fat 😀😀

I assume first buy-in on the front/mid engine cars is the same for the trans and rear end...

But with many of the QC rear ends, you can swap broken gears yourself. The transmission is relative cheap to rebuild (hard parts generally last) and will last long if kept cool.

@GoBig I never would've guessed that car was front/mid. Looks like a standard Racer other than the exhaust pipes in the "wrong" spot. Nice build.

35 gallon fuel cell, battery, fuel pump, Radiators/coolers, and the rear-end.

As mentioned....cost. You could run a reasonably stock 350/383 and a stock TH400 and be reasonably fast and everything would hold together, pretty much.

I once saw a rail, w/a stock VW front-end (I think, twas 40 years ago) and a 302 Ford. He was wheeling up Comp at Buttercup....WITH TRU_TRAC STREET TIRES. He rolled 3x on the way down. He was running diagonal on the hill and hit the whoops....sideways, sorta. They were made by Armstrong, 11x15. I had a set for the beach, once you were moving, my rail pretty much thought that they were paddles...1/16-1/8" of tread.

Now a-days, you could get an IRS rear-end out of an Armada, Expedition, Toyota and what-not. OF course, you'd need a R&P of, at least, the 4.11 range....4.50 would be better. Not sure if they make that.

All the ones that I've seen have 16", or wider, meats in the back.

As a side point, I once saw a Jeep, in the same place as above. He was hitting the Whoops and all of a sudden he did an IMMEDIATE 180. He went up, off the whoop, and when he came down, the whoop was coming up. A rear axle broke and the wheel hit the body. He must had a locker as the one wheel sorta put on the brakes and the other got all the power. I'm not kidding, it turned around in, like, 2 car lengths.

One for sale on Race-dezert
Am I uneducated to think that there wouldn't/shouldn't be a bunch of exposed zip ties on a $325,000 dune buggy?

I mean you could use as cushioned axel clamps but that would be even more intrusive? What would you use?

I'd think most race oriented companies would use zip ties for ease of maintenance on items. Looks pretty to run them through the tubes but makes it a pain in the ass to work on.

I ran everything through the tube on my funco and just did deuche connectors where I might need to work on it. Have always wired all my cars and have never has an issue.

I think he means not wrapped around the whole tube. There are a lot of options:

Nice thing is you don’t have wiring rubbing against the tube and wearing out the wire insulation or powdercoat.

don't know........just don't expect to see that on something that is 1/3 of a million dollars. Guess that's just the way it is done. @Rockwood most of your options involve drilling multiple holes in the cage so they suck to!🤣🖕🖕

Small holes don’t hurt the cage. Most sanctioning bodies make you drill holes for inspection

Or, since it bothers you, pick an option that doesn’t need holes :ROFLMAO:

What 3rd member housing are you running in this? Currie, spidertrax, etc? The idea of this setup seems unique. Hopefully I see this thing out there at some point super cool ride
