By registered, I assume that they mean stickered in your state. You need something that says that it is yours. I go from CO....in CO, the OHV sticker is in my name and that always flys. They've never looked at it...but I pulled the card out of my wallet and they didn't look at it. I have 3 ATVs and had 3 cards in my wallet....some were expired. But, They had CA stickers on them.
They can, and will (based on your attitude) impound toys that you don't have anything that says that it is yours.
You will be accosted by the BLM....DON"T F W/THEM. Be nice and they'll be nice to you, even if your stuff is wrong. They are looking for the use permit (did I say that they are looking for the use permit?) and often don't even look at your toys.
If you don't have the Permit....and you tell them that you just got in....they'll be cool. BUT, they'll be back in 1-2 hours and will expect to see it. They'll look at your windshield and drive on.... (Not me, but my BIL who did just drive in and the trailer was barely parked).
You will also need a ISDRA use permit. They are cheaper off-site. I don't know where to tell you to get them as you are coming from the North. They are, I think, $180 (same price on-site), for the season (thru March or April), or about 1/3 of that for a week. If you want to be a target for the BLM...skip this. Off-site, they are cash only.

Glamis is for party-animals. Gordon's is calmer and heavily visited. Ogilby, Ogilby Road and Buttercup are the calmest. At these last 3, you can run your generator and nobody cares as they aren't w/in 100 yards of you. You hear the freeway at Buttercup (but no machines) at night.
Except for sandrails....you need a helmet for everything else, and an 8' whip....of-course
