Clearing up some of the rumors on what the H2 recall fix involves!www.facebook.com
Correct I was told the reflash was to kill the throttle response when on the brakes.Heard from my dealer yesterday letting me know that my recall parts have been ordered. I asked him directly about the ECU programing and he said that it was not lowering the hp but to limit the throttle response when using 2 foot driving (on the gas and brakes at the same time). He said that Kawasaki determined that was part of the problem? I really don't care what the cause is, I just want them to fix it! I'm tired of looking at it sitting in my garage being so clean!!
regardless, you have a huge company behind you that will make it right--"Japanese right", no questions asked, you will not have to go buy a $12,000 clutch because they cant make it work just so you can drive what you paid forCorrect I was told the reflash was to kill the throttle response when on the brakes.
Not sure why or how they think that contributed to the clutch failures though. One video I was was a company that balances CVT and other engine parts. Even H2 clutch was significantly (several grams) out of balance, and they believed that was a factor on the failures. Another shows when you took the clutch top plat off the 6 posts spread making it very difficult to line up and bolt the top plate back on. I think the failures were due to multiple factors.
I just wished the secondary was improved along with the primary, is I think the design sucks, but it seems to be the clutch that’s creating more heat and has no way to move air or dissipate heat.

I'm looking forward to the 2 seater!
They are removing the ability to two foot drive the H2, which might be causing belt slippage. Most UTVs do not allow two foot driving (power braking).i dont think the programming is to lower rpm it will be some strategy to maybe turn on a limp home mode sooner with clutch slippage or something like that

I hope the new cover is made of a better not so brittle plastic material.I can say my towers on the spider were flexing and not allowing the spider to run straight up and down. I did not notice this until more recently when I saw the unusually wear marks on the clutch when I was out driving in Barstow. I think this flex in the primary was putting the belt out of alignment and causing the secondary to heat up and belt slippage. It was more so in the dunes due to the on/off of the gas more versus a more steady throttle in the desert.
I would of like to see a new secondary from Kawi, but they apparently did not think it was needed.
The fix does address the issue with the primary clutch and I like that they have a scatter shield on the clutch cover to prevent it from breaking when a belt goes. Also like they put a guard around the voltage regulator.
I will get the fix installed and see who it does. If I don't think it is enough I will looking a KWI or Tapp secondary.
I don’t think it shows weakness. I’d rather have both a scatter shield and a better clutch. I have not lost a belt yet on my can am but when I do I’ll be glad I had a shieldI hope the new cover is made of a better not so brittle plastic material.
I also wonder why they think the fix needs a scatter shield? Do they think the fix is not really the fix? Not one of brand has this and in a way it does not instill confidence that they actually made a better product, just more CYA parts for liability on there end. I’m hope I’m totally wrong and maybe it was for legal purposes. But when Polaris was exploding CVT’s they did not add a scatter shield, they resolved the clutching so a scatter shield was not necessary.
I wish Can Am put one on the clutch cover. It would of saved me from replacing the inner clutch cover a few times. I ended up getting clutch cover shields on both my Can Ams.I hope the new cover is made of a better not so brittle plastic material.

Looking at the Kawasaki recall repair kit pictures, the shields they are implementing are not to keep the belt from damaging the CVT cover from the inside. Looking at it it looks like the shields are designed to keep or slow the possibility of primary clutch failure debris from striking the body work or components like the regulator or wiring harness and to minimize the potential damage if it was to fail. Nothing in the kit from what I can see looks like the clutch cover stainless liners like you would put in a X3 inner clutch cover. I’m not even sure where part #3 exactly mounts. I’m thinking it’s on the exterior of the CVT cover maybe?I wish Can Am put one on the clutch cover. It would of saved me from replacing the inner clutch cover a few times. I think it was smart of Kawi to include that scatter shield on the clutch cover. Prevents the clutch cover from getting broken and stop any flying objects from going into the firewall.
I think it is a fix for the primary clutch issues, not sure if this will be a fix for the secondary heating up. Perhaps my secondary getting super hot was due to a poorly operating primary. I will find out once I get the fix installed and able to test it.

I will let you know once I get my car to the dealer for the install. Part 3 lines up with the bolt holes for the clutch cover and 4 additional holes added to the cover. Perhaps it is a combo of exterior and interior shielding.Looking at the Kawasaki recall repair kit pictures, the shields they are implementing are not to keep the belt from damaging the CVT cover from the inside. That’s what I suspected by looking at the parts drawings. No way it’s going inside as you would need more inner cover clearance, it will disrupt air flow within the cover, and you’d still have to get the belt to get around the shield. So no way it’s going inside the cover.Called the dealer this morning and they are ordering the parts. Once those come in I will schedule an appointment. @NIKAL the service manager thinks that clutch shield goes on the outside of the clutch cover. He was not 100% positive.
