My 2006 Wuerth Motorsports Build

Little update on the motor situation.

Pulled the bottom end apart and the rod was stuck in the windage tray. after pulling the broken rod and piston out, there was absolutely ZERO damage to the block. Got very lucky. Only damage was the broken rod, and the bent windage tray (which i hammered straight and reused).

Luckily, @ranman5608 had a spare gen 4 rod and piston from a spare motor. So i swapped my rings and bearing back over (all which were in good shape). and put the bottom end back together! There also appeared to be no bore wash on any of the cylinder walls as well.

Everything else internally looked the same as it did when i built the motor summer of 2022.

While it was apart, found some 243 heads to replace my 853 heads. Figured might as well upgrade something while I had it apart!

So i sent them over to Greg at Phoenix Cylinder Head to have them cleaned, a valve job, and my dual spring/retainers swapped over from my 853 heads!

Then last Sunday, i had an ARP head bolt break while torquing... so had to drill that out. Ended up going with head studs!

Ordered some OEM LS1/LS6 head gaskets and put these on!

prior to putting the heads back on, i decided to pull the lifter trays and drill 3/8" holes into them. This is supposed to help oil return to the pan quicker. these trays in stock undrilled form can hold up to 1/2 qt of oil!

Again, this was just me improving little things that I could while it was apart!

And after a 2AM garage session last night, the motor is back in the car!

I was thinking I took more motor pics, but I've been bad about taking pics recently!!!

You made quick work of that. Great way to make sure you get out there again this season!
