Maui Fire

Insane how fast it spread...

When you have to jump in the Ocean to avoid it....just crazy.

Insane.  My friend got back from Maui last week.  Most of the places he took pictures are now completely burnt to the ground.

Not a lot of roads to choose from in that area for evacuation. I've definitely been stuck in traffic in that area, and I mean really stuck. I can see how people had to flee straight to the ocean, no other way out.

Looks like that great big Banyan tree is still standing.

I had heard about it being in Hawaii, never did I think it was exactly where I love to go for vacation. Truly sad.

Very sad to see the devastation.
I proposed to my wife on Maui and Lahaina was one of our favorite spots.

I was planning on doing a wedding ceremony there next year. Just started the planning portion. So sad for the residents of Maui.

My two younger brothers live on Maui.  These fireS, there were 4 different active ones last I heard yesterday, are devastating the island.

Was just there in June stayed in Kihei but went to Lahaina for a day. Gonna take years to recover.

as for the roads doesn’t take much to mess them up 2 lane and day we went to Lahaina there was a motorcycle accident which caused a 2 hr traffic jam which was normally a 25-30 min drive. Think it was only way In too as other side of island rd was closed I know rental cars were not allowed the long way.

“ I know rental cars were not allowed the long way. “

Oops 😬

Nobody pays attention that part of the contract...
Lol should have seen my brother in law attempt to take the caddy mini suv awd down the road to jaws viewpoint. One lane dirt rd getting rough and signs saying four wheel drive only lol.

we went 1/4 mile past warning sign and said nope we did ok though did drag the bottom was an adventure. But knew our limits.

Makes you appreciate life when you see so much devastation. Don't take for granted what you have. It can be gone in seconds. Such a bummer for that town. And they don't have the means to rebuild / demo. Life is so laid back there too. How things change quickly. Peace

FEMA activated, will see if wife chooses to go, was already asked.

Hurricane Katrina had her in Louisiana for a few months, housing deployment, etc.

One of my best friends moved to Lahaina in the early 90s and still lives on Maui.  I spent the summer of 1996 living there with him and worked on a charter boat out of the harbor that he captained.

Since then I've been there over a half dozen times on vacation and a for a few weddings.  I cannot even fathom what just happened and feel so bad for the locals. So much of their history has been lost in a day . . .

That type of fire with wind, the heat is the deadly part of the fire.

The fire will use up the O2 and the super heated air will melt your lungs along with preheating the fuel in front of the fire to burn faster and hotter.

I fly into it, but the real studs are the ground crews in the middle of the fire fight.

This was 2 weeks ago. So sad.  It was our first trip to maui and a great vacation.  I really hop e to go back soon and I hope they get the help needed to rebuild.
