Yep. Mine was fine then too, but age catches up. My 97 XJ has 260k miles. The wiring rots and melts eventually.

Great info as usual.  Thanks.

Love my 2014 toyota FJ , They are probably one of most dangerous car on the road because of the blind spots, A few tricks, I installed a sensor kit for less then 200 bucks like all the new cars have and lets you know if you have a car next to you when switching lanes. Toyotas are bullet proof , As you know because they stopped making them 2014 the prices went through the roof. Subaru is coming out with a new mini truck

Nice.
Do you flat tow it?

I own a FJ Cruiser, and went with it instead of a Jeep due to the way it drives/behaves for daily use, the ride is great solid no loose feeling due to IFS, reliability, solid builds no rattles or creaking to name a few things. I have had mine for 3 plus years and blind spots have never been an issue since driving my Dually and MoHo has always made me use my mirrors. I did flat tow my FJ Cruiser using a driveshaft disconnect system and worked great with zero issues. All I can say is that they are 2 different animals the Fj Cruiser, vs Jeep Wrangler/Cherokee etc.

Anyone got pics of their FJ Cruisers? Its cool some folks do use them to hit trails too.

This was a Toyota held press introduction when the FJ was introduced to the public. I was invited along to Gorman offroad park to run the FJ through some admittedly minor tests. I had my Tacoma TRD offroad along also and the FJ handily outperformed it on some of the 4x4 trails.

first hand experience, wheeled with a fj awhile back, the toy was able to out climb my wj,

due to the traction control when right front wheel was off the dirt i watched the brakes apply

and the left took over and up he went

also I have seen driveshaft disconnect systems and they seem reliable

so dont let the flat tow thing scare you away from the toyota of your dreams.

i dont have an fj, nor have i ever driven one.  but i did have a 98 tj for some time that i left mostly stock, couple basic mods but not much.  i had the 4 cylinder in it which most people would advise against, but it did me fine.  i sold it to help pay for another truck, and regretted it immediately.  i still miss that stupid jeep, and wish i could have it back.  that being said, i have another jeep now, a 1974ish jeep with a 76 body, l98 engine, th350 trans, basically everything is replaced, the only thing jeep left about it is the shape.  i like my knockoff ultra4 cj, but its a far bigger pain in the ass than my stock tj.  just keep an eye out and find the treasure, they're out there to be found.  plus doors off in a jeep is just plain ol fashioned good fun.
