Is the sport quad segment dead?

GLAMIS WEATHER
When was the last time you were out in Ocotillo? Few months, for me.

Sitting at the Trestles, you'd see a few new SXS's but mostly well used, worn toys that are not in Glamis condition.

And... a shitload of Quads.

It's been well known for decades that the Ocotillo audience is far less invested into glamour and keeps the simplicity of this, alive (ATV use).

Glamis is different, stuff stays "pretty" longer with little to no effort.

One ride in the desert (Non-Sand Dunes) and yore stuff is instantly "Used" hah!

Very true.
Most of the guys in our group have had their stuff for years or bought used. No turnover every year.

Not necessarily.

All of my stuff has been out to Ocotillo a number of times and came back the same as a Glamis trip.

You just don't follow as close in Ocotillo as you would in Glamis. Don't need to, either.

Your front tires don't throw rocks?

Not to the point where it's damaging plastics or the frame. Part of the reason I still go on these trips.

I bought my 2005 450 in 2004.

I bought my 2007 450 in 2006.

Both quads have been to Ocotillo at least a dozen times, ridden by me (the 2007) and Greengo (the 2005)... pretty damn hard.

I also loaned out the 2005 to my Ex for a Hardpack trip with her drinking buddies, that resulted in my amazing new life. Quad came back with no damage (very surprised, expected it to be beat to shit).

Both quads are actually in VERY good condition, for their use... which is probably more than any other 450's in So Cal (90 day seasons in Glamis, Track days, MULTIPLE EPO's, etc).

I don't want to argue with you. But I can't agree that hardpack riding doesn't do more damage to paint, plastic, graphics, tires etc. Also I don't agree that Glamis people buy new every year. Maybe the Octilo crowd buys new every year but their stuff looks like shit from using in hardpack.

Bro... I didn't say "EVERYONE IN GLAMIS BUYS NEW TOYS EVERY YEAR. EVERYONE".

Why are you so hung up on it? Your camp doesn't buy new stuff every year. Got it.

Half of my camp, did. Not me.

You don't need to argue with me. My 450's have a lot of time in Ocotillo and still look nice. It is what it is... and they are my 450's to reference.

I'll also add that I see quads in the back of trucks with knobbies on around town (headed to Ocotillo)... ZERO quads with paddles in the back of a truck for at least the last 10 years.

You can even ask Greengo if you care to continue doubting me. We are no longer friends but he would be the first to tell you I'm not lying or telling a Fish story... if he cared to put in the time (good luck).

I'm not arguing with you I'm just stating that I don't agree with you. Other peoples opinions are allowed. I have almost 50 years of riding/driving in hard pack and sand. Thats my personal opinion and many others not I know that do both. No you don't have to bring Greengo into it to back you up. I'm over it.

Last trip I made, I had a YZF450 to use all weekend, man the powerband was like lightning in a bottle...but i still like the Raptor 700 @TheSPAINishLover had back in the day....perfect all day cruising for me with the wide paddles front and back and on tap power.

Him sitting on the back like a bambino spread the weight out perfect and made it ride like a Cadillac.
