Is the sport quad segment dead?

GLAMIS WEATHER
I just did a little looking. Polaris and Artic Cat don't even make a sport bike. But, they make several utility bikes.

Can-Am makes a 650 and a 1,000 w.a Rotax engine and they start at 14K. Talk about dangerous....62 and 91 HP.

Honda makes 5 utility bikes and 2 sport atvs, w.the biggest being a 230.

I.ve ridden a utility atv in the dunes....talk about R-U-F-F.

I really agree, it ain't no fun crossing the trail of a bunch of SXSs on an Atv....a guy might have a couple of teeth bounce out.

4x4 Sport Utility overlanding is a thing, here is a great ride and example. They went from Green Valley Lake/Crab Flats to Big Pines campground (Big Bear).

How fun, better then doing it in a Jeep (@Rockwood ) IMHO LOL

Those 1000cc ones are often more like a SxS without a cage than a utility quad.

I have super crispy AC and windows. I also don't end up wearing my vehicle as a hat if I run out of talent.

I had a Polaris Sportsman 570 for 6 years at my last place/job in SD. Was like riding a couch over rough trails. Wouldn't mind one for here in Kingman and the miles of trail out my door. The YFZ 450s can be a bit rough over ruts and rock.

My first thought was :Look at all the dust! That shows you how long its been since I was out on a group ride in the desert. I remember coming in looking like an Arab I was so covered in silt.

Yamaha only sells the Raptor 700 in CA. I had the last year 450 before Yamaha stop selling them in CA. It was a great quad and rode almost as nice as my fully done up 2005 450. My kid moved onto a dirt bike so the quad was sold.

I have seen a lot more quads out in Glamis the past few seasons. Drag banshees have made there way back to Glamis.

The Sport ATVs will die off once the ATCs die. My BIL has 3 of em.

The "Quad Lifestyle" is very much alive and flourishing out in Ocotillo... from what I have seen on my trips in the last two years.

It is FAR different from the Glamis audience. Most people in Ocotillo don't give a damn about having NEW toys. They just want them to run right... and can actually work on their own stuff.

The Ocotillo Prima Donnas are limited to the trucks; namely the Bronco builds.

Glamis has the "I'll just buy a new Sand Car or Side by Side every year" crowd that Ocotillo will never even touch on.

Once I sell the '05 Charity Case 450R... I'll likely be looking for a clean FI Yamaha 450 and would buy a new one if I had the chance.

People that LOVE to ride quads are still out there!

Can pick up 250r’s pretty cheap right now…

1984 and prior year Air-Cooled YES
1985, 1986 Water cooled - NO :( (I want an '85 again)

Watching my buddy hard seize his '84 250R doing 60+mph on El Mirage Dry Lake and slide a football field has me saying NO to air-cooled LOL.

Of course, a properly maintained and jetted AC 250R would run just fine.

We have not been to OW yet, it's on the list. Funny how we have a bunch of dirt friendly toys now...LOL

We can set up a trip for next year. Lilia will be riding by then and it's a lot closer for both of us, than Glamis.

The Boys can run the truck around to most places. There's Restrooms, Showers and places to eat.
