How Much $ Would You Sacrifice To Be Happy In Your Career?!?

I'm 53 and have definitely dusted off the resume
Is there a perceived finish line? A time when your goal is not working any longer. Now this could certainly change if you're really enjoying what you're doing at that time.  There again if staying where you're at (unhappy), I would have a set finish date.

I took a solid $40,000 hit going from a construction manager to a city building inspector. My house is paid for and kids are done with college. No more car payments and money in the bank. Best thing I ever did. I went from a shitty drive and super stressful (for me at least) job that I grew to absolutely hate to a 20 minute drive and no stress job. Oh yeah, 4-10s so 3 day weekend every week unless I pick up some OT.

Do it!

Let me preface this with saying, I love what I do, but HATE where I do it. I've been here nearly 30 years(the only job I've had since getting out of the Marine Corps) and the company just getting shittier every year. I am in design and development for medical and dental small equipment and make a very good living doing it. I have an opportunity to go work for Team Losi/Horizon Hobby in the product development department designing and developing R/C cars and since this has been a passion since I was a young kid it would be awesome to be able to do so. My only issue is it would be roughly $40-50k less per year because I'm coming in at the bottom. Seems like a no-brainer to find something more but I can't get this thought out of my head. So, as the title states, could you? would you? make that kind of sacrifice to be happier in your career or am I just being a dumbass? TIA
Horizon is a big company and working in a field you are passionate about would be fun.   If it was for Team Associated I would say go for it.  LOL!

Just have to figure out if you can afford to take that significant of a pay cut.

That's the key right there.

We are on target to pay off our home in less then 5 years from now. We bought it 5 years ago, was always the plan to pay off and retire or do something less stressful.

funny link there, my current company bought the medical division that used to be part of Thunder Tiger(AE) before Mr Lai moved the RC operations to China from Taiwan

My kid is really into r/c racing.   Been rocking the Team Associated 1/8th scale stuff for awhile and picked them up as sponsor this year.

I take it you are racing the MOD 1/5th scale series.   Last year at Silver State they were running the 1/5th scale races.  Good times!.
Yessir, Matty is a good friend of mine. I was there racing as well. We were just in Phoenix for a 5 hours 1/5 scale endure, his team has won 4 years running

So we've made a decision? Peace

That 5th scale stuff is gnarly.  Like watching Lucas Oil races.  LOL!!!

I will stick to 1/8th scale nitro.   MOD crew was at the TNR race this past weekend at The Dirt broadcasting.

sort of but not really? I had a phone interview yesterday with the CEO of a med manuf co based here in Brea, headed to Vegas 1st thing tomorrow morning(4 am) to meet with him. This one shouldn't be a pay cut   the Horizon position is still there, but if I can make a change w/o losing 35% of my paycheck I'll explore that 1st

If you're a divorce attorney do society a favor and find a mirror, stand in front of it, and open your throat from ear to ear. The only home my kids have known for 21 years will be sold so a drug addicted alcoholic can have her 'half'. So that's my story.

Divorce is some real Effing BS.

I hate how much men get drug through the mud in divorce.  All while...the news reports women are the highest rate of home owners...well yeah...they TOOK IT...paid for by a MAN!

With that said, I swear I'm the only guy I know that "won" in divorce.  She just walked away and said take everything, I can do it on my own.  (She was being stubborn and played the, "I'll show you I don't need you!"...She regrets that now)

sounds like my ex... 27 years later she's still renting an overpriced apartment in Yorba LInda with no aspirations of anything better
