How much boost are you running in your j series?

Popped a head gasket yesterday at 14lbs and wanted to see how many lbs most people are running.

9-10lbs. Engine is 10 years old, never been apart............knock, knock................... Super happy with the J-Series engine

Stock engine and 10 psi. My tuners started at 14 and said it was fine. They are not duners. I duned once and had them turn it down to 10. Intercooled and E85. Dyno showed 380 hp.

For this exact reason and not knowing much about the J series I started the season off with very low boost, turned it up last trip out. Currently sitting @ 6psi on 110.

usually its rods and pistons that give it up in a j series at that level.

OEM Honda. I was able to get a set of Cometic overnighted to me.

I blew 2 Felpro head gaskets right away. Pure junk. I have since ran cometic and had zero problems. I did deck the heads before putting it back together

Tasty milkshake.

Both times I blew the head gasket it blew between cylinder and water jacket. No water in oil. Combustion would pressurize the
Cooling system and blow fluid past the radiator cap. Water temp gauge would be all over the place.

Talking with my buddy, I think I know what happened. I had a boost leak and it was causing a boost spike which would engage the over boost cutoff which was set to 17.6lbs which I think the motor did not like.

Going to replace both gaskets and lower the boost to 12lbs.

Thought I read somewhere way back that at about 11psi the cylinders start "ringing". That's what shifts and blows the head gasket.
I remember the first time I put my boost controller on, checking to see the settings and it boosted up past 25, scared the shit out of me. Stood the front end straight up.. didn't hurt the motor..
