Ghost Camping was a topic at the DAC meeting

This was a good thread. Funny stuff but yes, the ghost camping sucks, it would be nice to roll in for a long weekend and get a nice spot for the RV to sit and kids run around, but literally squeezing a chit ton of rigs in a small spot has been a fight all season. Even the canal is packed.. Hopefully it will get better on off weekends. One of these days I want to camp at keyhole with my group. I do not know why but I just want to. Plus I can aim my Mexican fireworks at LRS.

I work remote when not traveling, I roll in to Gecko usually late on a Wednesday night and find a pad for our group that usually they start rolling in Thursday afternoon, in the past this has not been an issue finding a decent pad spot for our group. I did notice last season that even arriving on a Wednesday night it was crazy how many rigs were already in G......the other comment is even when empty on a Wednesday night and I have my cones out designating my camp spot....Thursday someone will roll up and it never fails....they will park right at the end of my last cone right on top of it even though they have a mile behind them to camp?? Now before anyone goes off saying folks like you put out 100 cones and caution tape and mark off acres of sand....no, I have 6-8 cones and place them in front and in back of my rigs and no caution tape.

As others have stated, we do not need more rules and regulations....just enforce those already on the books!!

Seriously............... Ghost Campers in the summer????????  WTF?? LOL
I think we need to investigate further on whether or not its a ghost camp.  There could be someone staying in that trailer...

With no tow vehicle.

Or toys.

Or chairs.

Or any other evidence they're there.

@richard h, I was just poking fun...  During the summer and even off months/weekends who cares.  during the busy times.........  I think that is BS.  but Im a nobody, so my opinion does not count.

Me, @dbart & @Rockwood are just here for the entertainment value & snide comments (Oh & @AlpineFunco, he's a smart.a.z.z. too........).  LOL.

It has gotten a bit out of hand. In the past sure drop a rig or few campers off a weekend or two early or leave them if you're coming back out. The past few seasons though have gotten pretty bad. I came out a few times this season on a Tuesday thinking there would be open spaces and all the pads were spoken for, even shoulder areas.

What I don't understand is we have toys stolen from our neighborhoods, businesses and parking lots but why don't the criminals pluck them off gecko since they are abandoned out there? With today's crime I would be too worried about my toys sitting out there when I wasn't there.

Oh boy, is it almost summertime? haha.

@BRANDON LONG, yea............ I was worried leaving mine in my trailer locked up @ my house.  I had all kinds of locks & disable devices on it and I live in a good neighborhood with a bunch of nosy as neighbors.  I would have ulcers if I left them in Glamis....  LOL.

I've seen countless enclosed trailers with nothing holding them down other than a quick prayer and gravity.  First thought I always have is "aren't they afraid of theft?"

Next trip.  Still there, completely unmolested as far as I can tell.

An outfit taking $100 payments to hold spaces for people on Gecko shrinks pad real estate quickly and compounds the ghost camping issue worse than before for those that don't book through them :deal: .

No new laws/codes, just enforce what we have.

I’ve had people camp right next to me, there’s no way they didn’t see the driving range complete with a 7 iron and a couple buckets of balls when they unloaded. Next thing I know they’re biatching about the occasion shank bouncing off their shiz….
