Ghost Camping was a topic at the DAC meeting

I literally could not care less if they shut that practice down tomorrow. Disallowing others to enjoy camping where some self centered narsissists hold down spaces they feel entitled to for some reason is BS. I'm at the point in life where I could do the same (retired) but I would not feel right about it knowing what it was like grinding with a young family and not being able to stay on Gekko for decades because we rolled out Fri evening and I had to be back on Sunday to provide. Once again I bit on a summer topic.....
This 100%.

Just the beginning of the process to turn Gecko into reserved camping spots is all. Will be a great revenue generator for the BLM.
Hooray for me, Eff everyone else mentality always leads to money making opportunities for government entities.
The problem with trying to use our public recreation areas has always been the poor people causing congestion, be it at the dunes or on the freeways getting there.
We don’t need a ton of enforcement officers responding to Joe & Jane Sixpack complaining about not being able to set up their mobile ghettos on prime real estate.
Gecko should have a guard shack checking prospective campers prior to folks finding a spot and setting up. Anyone with a credit score lower than 800 should be put in a holding area and escorted to the Washes. Other disqualifications for camping should include clapped out Banshees, Budweiser in the can, pasty White Bovine with shiatty tattoos wearing uber-tight yoga gear and anyone from El Cajon.

$20 a gallon gas would solve 99.9% of the issues.

Let's add equity and diversity to the rules, since Glamis is in California. Minorities and lower wage folks get priority camping spots.
Don’t forget dues paying Union Members…

Making it tuff.

I resent that. I am El Cajon born and raised. Sure I am high class white trash but Alpine, Santee and Lakeside aren’t any better.

Big water tanks and a lot of firewood. Saw it empty all weekend a few times.
Yep.  And no one really cares since there's lots of room. For now at least.

Yeah! Those tweekers on mountain bikes can rip a dune just as well as any Funco...

I could care less about Gecko and camping, but what the last two seasons have done due to so much ghost camping, it is now impacting other camping areas at Glamis.  Areas where it was less crowded are now packed with people that used to camp on Gecko.  Last season, we had two groups on either side of me that basically told me they can't get on Gecko anymore, thus they parked 3 ft next to my rig like they are still on Gecko, and then all weekend the group continued to encroach all other campers around us.  If you want to park like sardines, figure out how to get a spot on Gecko.

People are now Ghost camping everywhere, not just Gecko.  Enforce the rules, we don't need more.

It's summertime 😍

I have no opinion anymore on this topic, I'm over the government trying to do anything without effing it up, creating more bs and raising fees, taxes, etc.

Who knew it would be soooo hard to track and ticket 72 plus hours vacant rigs along a single entrance road...

Whatever do you mean?  It's unpossible to tell the difference between an empty camper and one being used... The fact that all week (or more) long the toys are in the trailer, there are no tracks in the camp, the slides are in, and no chairs/firewood/BBQs/tables anywhere in camp isn't enough.  They need moar proof.

Usually when I'm in a fight, that's the first thing I do! Peace

It's been years since we've even bothered looking for a spot in Gecko, but I thought things got better for a bit out there with Ghost Camping.  Has it gotten worse?

If you want to end ghost camping just takes 1 guy with balls and a match burn then all one night

the government won’t enforce the rules but vigilantes can

Is that overkill ? Sure it is,same kind of thing could be used on real criminals and really improve society

I like your Machiavellian thought and approach to this.

A good old fashioned recession will clean up the congestion issues at Glamis, and we are quickly approaching one.
I have said this for years.  The best times in Glamis were/are when the economy sucks. It weeds out the riff raff.  Glamis could definitely use a season or two of those people not going.  My answer will be more midweek trips next season.  Being a remote worker sure is nice.

Whaaaaa. Do something about the fireworks and loud music late at night first. Maybe the azzholes that leave their trash? Nah, ghost camping is way more crucial. I know a guy that got into a fist fight and the tip of his finger was bitten off. Called 911 and they wouldn't come out. But ghost camping is ruining then dunes.
Sounds like a real party LOL ....and I thought only Wash 6 and the Hill was like that.

So Ghost camping in eastern San Diego county is no good?  LOL!

There are times on "off-weekends" finding spots on Gecko was tough that last few seasons.

I personally like the ghost campers that put covers on their chairs, trailer/motorhome tires, and just about everything.
