Do strobe lights work to defend yourself?

What about a Byrna pistol? Non lethal, but a paint ball of pepper spray gonna deter a lot of people/animals. 

The paintball idea is great, but damn those things are expensive.

I have a full auto Tippmann A5, and would not want to go out with anything less than a full hopper...
