Conventional Septic Systems - What do I need to know?

Simple rule, if it goes through you then it's safe. Also, no wings or strings.

Congrats!

So...lucky, moving out of CA!

I have a concrete pad next to the 3 car garage and was thinking of extending it until I found out that is where the field is!
This is the item that could fail. Ours was transit pipe and it and the j box were completely missing in action after 25 years. Did 2 new lines and j box and this time out of plastic.

Thanks, not moving full time yet but diffidently on my way! Mom has some health issues and can't leave just yet but will be spending most of my time there!

Congrats man, happy for you guys.

No idea on the septic stuff, ha!

I guess you will soon be asking yourself "Why did I not leave sooner"?  I know I ask that all the time.  Just lived through 31 days of 110+ degree heat and still do not regret leaving.

No female hygiene products down the toilet!

crazy, but we've been in our house a little over 12 years now and never had it pumped.  Seems to be working just fine.  I'll have it pumped one of these days, but need to break up part of the driveway to do it, hence it has never been done. 4 of us in the house... only rule since day one was no female products down the toilet.  I do put in some additives anytime we'll be gone for a weekend or longer to let it do it's thing.  I try not to dump the RV tanks at home just to not overload the system, but I have done it here and there with no issues so far (knock on wood)

I use the green pig additive found on amazon

BTW congrats on getting outa CA!

I usually take a crap outside. Sometimes I'll crap indoors. Helps the system gravitate. Peace

Congratulations Sir. We have over a dozen properties here and all on septics and have learned a few things. Most of the answers are spot on with the exception of additives. You don’t really need them. In fact if you look at the labels I believe they still say to use them in a properly maintained system. I’ll put it as nicely as I can… only put into the system what comes out of and off of your body. Septic safe toilet paper and septic safe laundry soaps are recommended. ours is always in good shape.
The fact of the matter is tenants don’t give a crap about the rules and flush everything, so the real answer is to stop worrying about it and have it pumped in 3-5 years. Out here it’s not that expensive, about $500.00, compared to the many $1000s to replace to lateral or leach field.
