Just ran across this video. Give it a watch and let me know what you think.

I'm going to watch it again and give my opinion.

I watched it. Based on the video I think it's all his opinion and barely second hand info. Gaslighting emotional clickbait for the YouTube channel views. It's certainly possible that they could remove them if they decided to.

I do not think that putting the BLM CA State Director's digits on a vid and sending everyone watching his channel to try and call for an answer to this is a good idea. That decision gets made at the ECFO, several rungs in the chain of command below Stout. Jumping that high simply for an annoyance asking about removing unpermitted monuments isn't going to get us goodwill or anything productive.

Several times a year it comes up on FB. Every time there's at least one retard in the comments lobbying for the flag pole to be removed too, even though the box (as well as several other boxes, the tubes, the old plane crashes, and other military artifacts) has been there since the 40s, decades before it was an OHV area.

Like them or hate them, I agree this guy is just creating "content" for who knows what true purpose.

It's not the way to address the matter.

My opinion is you leave this topic alone with the BLM, the spots don't need to be talked or asked about, they get built, they get popular and then some go away. It all depends on whether they become a nuisance for the BLM. Let them be the phenomenon they have been, never know when times up or not.

Except the military items, leave those as the historic items they are.

Click bait for sure.

It is sad that people keep adding things to the swing set, it is turning into one huge memorial, that was never the intention. At this point, I wouldn't lose sleep if it is gone. Maybe those dunes would be less jacked up and us duners could enjoy them more....haha.

dune destination sites are dumb, what happened to just stopping out in the sand and enjoying the view? My group always wants to go to some stupid spot, i just want to dune and have fun, i have no need to be seen or see others.
I have no problem once a day stopping at a destination, but not every stop needs to be a destination, especially when you see the same people at each stop. Love stopping in the middle of nowhere and having a ICB and hanging.

Video is just a dude making claims. And that video ain't gonna help.
When you really think of it, could you just start building shit in a National Forest or State Park?
If people would stop stabbing crap into the sand for their own personal social media feels, the swingset would probably be fine and left alone.
But no. It needs a volleyball net, it needed a BBQ, it needs a tetherball, it need random street signs.

There is a memorial plaque on the swingset for someone's dog. Just plain stupid. This guy is just looking for clicks and his bullshit is just going to cause more problems. While I think the two flagpoles should stay, I'd be fine with them getting rid of all of that other shit.

I don't see the issue with having destination spots (Swingset) in the dunes. It gives folks a spot to meet up at and enjoy their time there.
I have yet to go to Swing-set (which is one of our normal stops) and not see people enjoying the Swing-set, playing volleyball, using the Tetherball setup...is that not all part of the experience in Glamis....enjoying being in the dunes. I see kids running to the Swing-set to use it....what is so wrong with that?

In theory you are right, but this is not a plan, this is random people creating future trash. Then the element of people that all they do all day long is sit at these destinations and consume many ICB's, and then the nighttime crowd that just leaves all their trash. This isn't sustainable and eventually becomes an issue.

In the big picture, life isn't about the destination, it is about the journey. Go enjoy the sand.

I concur, but the same could be said for Olds, Brawley Slide, Comp, Flag Pole etc.....point is when does it stop....meaning BLM from destroying it all and closing G down.

The BLM is in charge of maintaining our public lands. As soon as people who want to shut it down for all off-roaders start taking the BLM into court for allowing things like Carla's Bench, Satellite Dish and the Swing Set to remain they all will disappear in one off season never to return.

Personally I love people permanently planting pieces of metal in the dunes, bonus for metal with sharp edges and points.

Well, the video has been hidden and seems all socials have been wiped of it. I felt is was clickbait and posting the number for Stout was unnecessary. It did bring out all the sides and opinions on the "destinations" Very strong feeling on both sides. We can argue the flagpole and the historic value of General Patton using the dunes for training, we can argue the box and its existence prior to the formation of the ISDRA. May be able to argue the Hotshot Fireman memorial if there was/is an approved permit in place, but the rest of it has been a secret deal done and placed while the masses were not looking from what I have been told. Some have stood the test of time and BLM, some have been removed. I personally am surprised the swing set has lasted this long, additions and memorials keep coming with no stopping it. I am not a fan of the memorials and like others have said, try that in a national park. Sounds like the desert riding areas are seeing the same "destinations" being erected and the BLM is addressing them as well. Memorials belong at home, in a cemetary or on private land.

The swing set is a neat place to stop, people watch, check out cars, toys and take a break. It is getting beat up out there. The bottles and cans are not terrible but they are there every time I've stopped. Whats really prevalent is the wipes. Dam piss/ass wipes sticking up like white flags all over the area. It's disgusting and should be mentioned and dealt with.

We all enjoy this open space, we've fought in the past to open this space. The generations since this opening have not had to fight for it so they have no experience with the loss of acreage. Would these individuals that are fighting "for" the destinations stand and fight for the land if it was being taken away?
How much of this grievance "for" destinations is just keyboard and how much is from true patriots? I'm willing to bet there would be the same census count in the ISDRA without the "destinations"

But if you went to swingset and didn’t post it on social media, did you really go???

Oh no if it does get removed where will people actually go to now.LOL Im sure if the trash keeps piling up,more destinations get put up BLM will one day just remove them all.
