Ive wanted to get one of these for a while, but honestly dont know anything about them.  I would like the later model ones with the feature in the door and for sure a Hemi.

what is there to look out for?

what features are desirable?

for a while a lot of folks were talking about the DOD and you "had to disable it", is that still true?  any smog ramifications from that?

is there a "glamis dunes forum" for Chargers?

This is the door Im talking about.

Yea............... that is a bit out of my price range.  LOL.

I was talking about the later models when they put the big gash in the door....................  LOL.

as much as I would like the double throw down, SRT, Hellcat, fire kitty, wide body, blower motor version........... I got other plans for a hot rod.  Im looking for a fun commuter that is not 40 years old.

Also me................

Air cooled Porsches are stupid expensive right now.

If it's Hemi, good chance it'll develop "Hemi tick", which is apparently harmless, but makes your motor sound like chit.  Supposedly a high moly oil like Pennzoil Ultra Platinum fixes/reduces it.  They also eat exhaust manifold studs.

I had a 2010 Challenger, was a great car. Wife want's back in a V8 and the SRT 300Cs are calling me out.

I really wanted a charger srt. Was driving a 2016 Passat tsi. It was fun comfortable and fast (and got 28-30mpg, but wanted a v-8 and keep 4 doors. gas prices were low, and i was actively looking, but alas, the damn dirty democrats smashed that idea. With $6/gal gas. So here i am telling myself i love the tdi wagon i got (im averaging 38mpg now). Its probably for the best. I Am having fun with my tdi wagon. Doing a late model 5 speed trans swap soon, also have tunes injectors and bigger turbo to swap in soon. She’ll be a sleeper that gets 45mpg.
save my $ for a 3 door suburban or 64 cadillac

The "door" model you're picturing is the 2015 refresh, so all V8s will have the very excellent 8 speed ZF transmission.

The only thing to watch out for is "Hemi Tick", which can eventually become cam/roller lifter failure. I had the truck 6.4, which is somewhat different than the Scat Pack 392, in my 2015 2500. It would get noisy, and after trying a few oils, including the factory recommended Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and Amsoil,  I was steered to Red Line oil AKA "Hemi Honey". There is something about the ester base, and high moly content of Red Line that kept it quiet for reasonably long change intervals. I am not an oil fan boy in general, but as weird as it sounds it worked, and the results were repeatable. For the 5.7 5W30 is the answer. In the 6.4 they call for 0w40, but I got better results with 5W40. I wish I had tried the 5W30, though.

WOW........... I dont think Ive ever had a motor that cared that much about the oil I put in it...

what is the difference between the 392 and the 6.4?  Cam and converter or is there a real difference in the motor.  being the same displacement I would assume bore and stroke are the same........

Same displacement and basic architecture, but the truck 6.4, called BGE, is optimized for heavy truck use duty cycle, where the Scat Pack 6.4, called Apache, is tuned to be a ripper.

My 6.4, even with the old 66RFE and 4.10s could knock down 17 mpg highway, sometimes 18 across the plains. Not super bad for a 7K+ truck. Grossing 23K+ combined with the toy hauler hovered in the 7.5-8.5 range.
Not terrible, no.

In a Charger, the exhaust note is VERY good, I expect mileage to suffer as a result.
