Any Diesel Guru's in here? Having an issue with a BRAND NEW Garrett VGT on my 6.slow

Ok, that video is a boost leak that my 6.0 developed when i picked it up after having a new hpop installed. Mechanic broke a couple exhaust studs (have to remove turbo and up pipes) and then decided to put it all back together with part of the gasket missing too afterward. Was thinkin maybe you have a leak somewhere.

Owned 7/8 years drove 100k miles, bought it with bad injectors. Only real issues i had after replacing injectors was fuel pump, cracked radiator, ipr and icp, and oil pump was weak @171k miles

owned it from 71k miles to 171k, felt like it was pretty damn reliable for its age and miles.

My 05 dmax had way more issues by the time i sold it at 70k miles

it may still be a boost leak, It's my daily so it's hard to take it apart after work when it's hot AF... I noticed a little soot at the seperation on the y-pipe v-band clamp last night that know wasn't there before because the clamp is brand new. I'll be taking everything loose again 1st thing tomorrow morning and trying the get that adjusted correctly. I appreciate all the feedback!

well chit, I took everything back loose and took off all the hardware. Was able to get a better seal on the y-pipe connection but still makes the whooshing noise and its was more prominent when it's cold(tells me boost leak for sure because when everything swells it seals better) I also found an oil leak at the Bulletproof cooler line fittings up top which sucks because everything has to come back off to fix that   I think it's time to just take it to the diesel shop and pony up :dunno:

I think it's time to invest in a 3rd car for the household so I'm not so pressed or rushed when these things arise.

 Bummer news dude.

Now that I go back to the office I've been fighting off buying a new car just to get better gas mileage.

So now Jonathan takes the truck around town. And I'm back in the old Honda SUV.

New car truck prices suck

used truck prices are even worse...

Check intercooler for cracks.  Maybe fancy new turbo was its kiss of death

Do you have access to a smoke pump? you can check for leaks that way.

I've started to see prices drop a bit.

For the past 18 months, I've been eyeing a F150 Limited (3.5L PowerBoost) with the blue interior.  Fully decked out it comes to about 90k.  Dealership in GA whose newsletter I'm subscribed to just sent a message saying they would sale it for 77k to me.  I still can't come to accept paying that much for a vehicle.

do you have a block off plate to put air in the system to check for boost leaks?

…..unplug the ebp sensor too and see if surging goes away. Have you ever cleaned the tube or sensor? I deleted it on my 6.0 and 7.3
I did this and it didn't seem to do anything, but that may have been due to a boost leak in the beginning. After I got everything apart and back together(can get the turbo out in 20 minutes now   ) and sealed up it ran good for 1 day then chit itself into oblivion but still no codes... pulled into the gas station this morning on my way to work and unplugged the EBP and bam, she runs perfect. No more turbo lag, no more surge and no more stinky exhaust smell. I'll be ordering a new sensor today and swapping it Saturday as well as cleaning the EGR valve. Thanks for the tips and help!

This is why I love this place, you guys rock!

Glad you found something. If there is any oil in the plug, replace the plug too. Riffraff.com is great for parts
