Angry in California......

     Been in Cali my entire life. Owned several types of businesses.  I have owned my latest (Auto repair and tires) since 1999. California has done a great job of running people out of this state. Now with GN in charge it is at an all time high.  They are looking at every single area of small businesses in order collect revenue. From waste, storage, employees, rain run off, vehicles, etc. everything is getting nit picked for taxes and fees. Hence your new garbage stuff 

     In the last year we have had 2 of our chillin's move out of state. One in the Pac NW, and the other to Virginia. I am now getting reports of how life is just so much simpler. And the people are so much nicer. I have between 8 to 10 years left before I wanna sell and retire. We are taking all kinds of notes.

Moved to Utah recently, went from 3 cans in Ca to 1 large can, my wife seperated the recyclables for a couple months, I didn't even tell here it all goes into the same can till a couple weeks ago (-= 

 
Anger is a terrible emotion. I try to stay away from that. Except when some nimrod tries to race me down the hwy and I have to accept. Should just stayed in the right lane and let the world pass me by. Peace

So I went through this a couple years ago.

I get a couple letters that I ignored at our business, then we got a few phone calls from county. We were informed we have to get a cardboard dumpster. So I call waste management and they deliver one, they didn’t pick up I call again then again before they realize they don’t offer recycling in my area. They come and take the dumpster back. I’m off the hook right? NOT. Now I get a yearly audit of how we are disposing of all cardboard, all pallets, and all green waste. We can’t give it away, we can’t let someone have, we have to have receipts and tracking on how and where we recycle this stuff.

so for the longest time in business i have had a $165 3 yard dumpster

then a few years ago they required another 3 yard dumpster for my cardboard.  they charge me an extra $135 for this dumpster, they put a lock on it so people dont steal it and then they make money on the recycling but cant give me the dumpster for no charge or any credit

so after Thanksgiving i find a new residential trash can on my property  i ask what is this.  They tell me that it is for my organic waste and is required by law. It told them im a shop and dont have organic waste.  after a month they denied my claim to forego the $91 a month small 65 gallon trash can.  they want me to now separate my food scraps and paper towels into the organic trash can and yard clippings.   

so i pay $391 a month for trash at my shop.  I have a single dumpster at my home and only pay $135 for a 5 yard dumpster and can put everything in

They have the franchise where my shop is so no alternative.  The state is claiming that organic waste going into the landfills are contributing to green house gases  Oh my  i am glad i only have a few more years of this

John - in Buena Park you don't have to use that company - I can't remember the name.  I've got four warehouses within a few miles of you and they tried that same thing on us.  We had them remove the bins.  I think your problem is you don't have enough waste to make it worthwhile.  We have companies pick up all our corrugate / card board and provide dumpsters for free and get paid for it ....depending on market, at times the corrugate market is bad and it's just free.  Same for our organic waste.  Happy to stop by any day and share some of our contacts if it helps.  Feel for you - CA is doing all it can to drive businesses and people out.  

 
How is your commercial warehouse leasing going? We found out one of our buildings had gone up 280% for a 3 year lease. 200K sq/ft auto parts warehouse in Ontario. Prices like that are unsustainable. This is a fortune 500 global company. 

 
The biggest problem all these fees and permits are coming from agencies. There is no way to vote for or against them. Just wait the federal govt is well on its way too. They are coming after everyone though. The whole outlawing gas appliances is the start

City of Chandler has had the black(garbage) and Blue(recyclables) cans for years. They pick up each once a week, Even got a few "warnings" about things like junk mail in the blue can a few times.  Then we got the notice that they no longer will be separating the recyclables so all the trash was going to the same landfill.  They didn't change anything else. Now I get trash pick up twice a week, only thing is that if I put the black one out on the blue one's day, they won't dump it.  I can live with that.

Same in Mesa. The recycle centers can only handle so much so most of the recyclables go straight to the dump!!

Well that word was probably a little too offensive. :rofl: I was hoping for a better word. Perhaps you could share the emotion you had when you found out you just covered up an old drainage pipe under your driveway. What emotion was that? And what ever you say is what I’m thing about calif right now!  Make sure you’re PC Lol
