What’s the best off the shelf cam for an LS1 Sandcar? Looking for more low end torque. I’ve talked to a handful of people and people are saying BTR Stage 2-3 cam or a sloppy stage 2 cam. Wondering if anyone had any recommendations thanks.

what heads, what rpm do you want the cam to start to come in, I would not put a off the shelf street cam in a desert car with low gears,

In addition to what @J Alper said: what cam do you have now? Need a reference for "more low end torque."

Uh, something wrong with the shifter? :)
No, I’m use to driving my fathers supercharged ls1 car so maybe that’s why I’m expecting more low end torque at that range. Just trying to see what others have used and liked that’s all.

Apples and Oranges.
No cam you install will behave like a supercharged motor.
Been there, done that.
Cam'd my LS1 etc.
Then started with a 1.9L Maggie, never looked back.
Now I have a stroked LS3 with a 2.3L Maggie.
This stuff is addicting.

I had the same setup... my LS6 with 243 heads had the Howards Cams American Muscle 197245-12. It had awesome low-end torque. If I wasn't going TT I would have kept it.

I run summit's 8708 Cam in my LS1/6
That is a Huge cam for a stock LS6 for bottom end ^^^

One issue you will have with a stock cam is Lift, .600 lift on a over rev with a good lifter will bend the valve,

Most get away with a .600 lift due to Crap Lifters, a super quiet lifter will loose a lot of lift under spring pressure,

Need some spring pressure so you don't bend a valve,

To do this correctly you need to use a good Lifter, a performance race lifter like a Johnson short travel will get you all the lift, and the correct degree on the cam ,
A soft lifter will get you something, but not what the cam spec are,
Start with good lifters if you are doing a cam swap, if you really want to make a difference,

If you have good lifters then i would max the lift at .585 on the lift, Crap lifters you can go to .600

If you want a torque cam then it will not accelerate hard it will just pull smooth and steady,
with a Lobe Sep around 116-117

But if you get to a 111-112, it will come in more around 2500 rpm and rap hard, but will have zero power below that rpm, but will make great power, and keep it a plus 3 or plus 4,

If you want I can get you a great price on a Cam Motion cam, custom or off the shelf,
your LSA depends on your driving style,

That cam is pretty much a stock ls6 with a tighter LSA, I think that cam is leaving a lot on the table for a sand car, but would be good for a daily driver,

What cam motion off the shelf cam would you recommend? I’m just a duner. I don’t go down the drags, I play in the big bowls behind olds and out past China wall. Don’t care how much power people are pushing. Everyone now a days seems to care how much horsepower everyone has. I’m in second gear to third gear duner. Just want something with some nice lope at idle and a little more power down low is all.

Been running this set up for 4 years. LS7 lifters. Dual Rate Springs. I didnt just throw a 600 lift cam into an otherwise stock engine.

Oh and might I add, it runs really really really good 🤷‍♂️

Gonna need cubes or boost for that feeling. :)
