Ditched the AR10 (built it and will use it at the range and plinking) Put together a nice but not expensive AR15

I'm looking at optics and Vortex is on top of the list since I get a discount.

Here's what im thinking

https://vortexoptics.com/spitfire-hd-gen-ii-5x-prism-scope.html (5x power)

or

https://vortexoptics.com/spitfire-hd-gen-ii-3x-prism-scope.html (3x power)

or

https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-spitfire-ar-1x-prism-scope.html (I like Green better then Red but this one is only 1x power)

If I want to go completely off the rails there's this https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-amg-uh1-gen2-holographic-sight+reticle-EBR-CQB (its also 1x power and only red)

What say you? I have looked at Holosun as well

Eotech for the win. You can add a magnifier for longer ranges.

For a truck gun, just get a Primary Arms red dot. Proven quality and cheap. $150-250. Truck gun shouldn't be shooting any kind of long range. Can't imagine a $1k optic getting bounced around under a seat or just floating around the cab.

I have an EOTech with a green reticle. Supposedly, you can pick up green better in highlight/desert light than red. My experience so far says that's true.

I agree, I can see green better than red in all conditions

Tritium or other non battery glow in dark sight. It stinks to miss a shot at something because the damn battery is dead.

What are your intentions with this gun? Poppin' 'yotes on forest roads?
Main purpose is to have in the truck when I drive back n forth between Ca and Az and wherever. It will be in a bag behind my seat

Something I can grab in a hurry if needed

Ill also use it in the desert and plinking

There are some really nice Truck Gun bags out there, Optics are not as important is being able to hit a target "with efficient force" after getting thru the glass or metal....that's more important. Collapsible or Folding stock I'm guessing?

Where is the build thread 👀

Yes, ill add a pic

These type of scope are very durable and under-rated.

FBI did a study years ago on fiber-optic front sights....green is way ahead of red as far as low-light visibility goes.

I'm not sold on TruGlo. What you are looking for is durability....

I'm definitly not sold on EOTec....that is for sure. In fact, I'd go iron-sights before EOTech.

I’m still prefer irons for simple and effective. One less thing to worry about

Irons are more accurate than un-magnified dots at distance.

Forgot to take a pic before leaving Prescott but it has the iron front sight, I'll change it out (low profile gas block) but maybe I should look into a rear sight that goes on a picatinny rail?

You can buy the MBUS sight pieces separately too.

If its the regular ar triangle post like mentioned you can buy a magpul mbus and they line up great. Now range gun i would say optic is fine.I run one on my sbr but its a range toy. Also using the push button safety too got it running really good just go through alot more ammo lol

i just left the range, and a bunch of officers was there qualifying I guess, one lady next to me stopped shooting and i hear her say i lost my dot, guy comes over and said you prob need a battery, I was kinda confused she didn't know what to do. then range master walks over and says we sell batteries in the shop you know, so she runs over there to get a new battery lol. just glad it wasn't an scenario where she really needed to rely on that lol.

Good stuff, hard to beat my 40% at Vortex tho
I have the Vortex 5x prism sight. Also added a simple Vortex red dot to the top of it for 1x duty. The prism is an etched reticle with holdovers, so its still usable should there be a battery issue. If I had it to do over, I probably would have gone with the 3x instead of the 5x. YMMV.
